Well, I told myself this morning that a perfect sports day for me was to have Loyola win their Sweet Sixteen game and SIU Dawgs to own Misery State. I would have settled for just ONE of those to happen. We sure missed Williams and any kind of long threat from our QB. Like many have said before, you can only give Nick Hill and company so many "close but no cigar" before you lose patience. I am sure there will be a lot of soul searching from a program that ended NDSU's long winning streak but didn't do much else after that. Fall football season will sure tell us a lot, won't it?
I think Hill has to make the playoffs next fall or he might be done at SIU. They should have the roster to make the playoffs. Have to shore up the run defense. Should be a battle between Norton and Baker for starting QB. Hope Williams and Baker are healthy in time for workouts/practice.

Sure as H can't blame this on SL. He's a good QB. There was no deep threat cuz Hill only called such a play a few times. MSU secondary was very good and those guys just weren't open.
25 for 34, no ints, no bad decisions, and a lot of those incompletes were throw aways because receivers were covered. NH called a very "play it safe" game IMO, easier to defend than other scenarios.
They were the superior team 2nd half...like a different team.. not sure what Petrino said at half, but it worked and their QB and RB were very good 2nd half.
Hill seemed pretty pissed during the post game. A good team closes that game out...up 19-7 at half and dominating on D. Can't have seniors making bonehead plays in crunch time and I get the D was gassed a bit but they have really struggled in the second halves of the last few games. Very disappointing finish to what was a very promising season. We'll see how they respond in the fall...Hill really needs to make the playoffs.
Do you pull an Illinois State and not show for the rest of the season? You're not losing or gaining anything financially. You could potentially lose an important piece for extended time with a major knee or another type of injury.
I know some of us are thinking this. I'm just saying.

Just be careful with the pieces that are going to be back next year and play the guys that aren't going to be back. I'd sit guys like Javon Williams Jr for sure.

no you can't blame it on Stone, but he's really wanting at QB. All day long he showed incredibly poor pocket presence. Early on they would roll him to the right. Several times MSU set the edge but he kept rolling right into the defender and the sideline. In the second half if his first option was not available he immediately scrambled, even though he had a very good pocket set up. He never "climbed the pocket" and got nervous and took off
He might be the 2nd worst QB in the conference, with the worst being Lyles
I would tend to agree Terrier 1. Disappointed by the loss and really wish Baker could have remained healthy as I think he could be special. Felt like last year he had the strongest arm and knows how to win. Fortunately, football season is right around the corner and we still have one game left.
What I took away from this game is how shallow our depth chart is. Granted, most teams D is going to suffer when they loose their 1st and 2nd string DT and have to move a DE in. Recruiting the big uglies at this level is the hardest get. This is why I prefer a 3-4 system. It's seemingly easier to recruit LBs. But conversely our depth at DB is exceptional. I believe we were out 5 DBs at one point. But this is to be expected by us -- Defensive Back University.
Our depth on offense isn't any better. But having said all this, depth is the biggest challenge for any program at this level and below. Makes one appreciate NDSU so much more. Having the depth to fill in at virtually any position and going 39 straight without a loss.
We would still be kicking tail if we had more luck on our side and didn't have all the injuries. But, it wasn't meant to be. I DO NOT GET RID OF NICK AND THIS STAFF. Can't coach luck. I could go on but you get my point.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!

Guess we were watching different games. He's pretty accurate and pretty good at avoiding the sack, and he had a number of completions to second or third receivers. And he doesn't make bad decisions like Lyles. Mo State was in our backfield as much as our running backs - pass protection was not great 2nd half.
We were watching different games apparently. Stone has a horrific case of happy feet or at least he did Saturday. He never climbed the pocket he always bailed. 67 of his 270 were to Hartrup on one play. The ball was so inaccurate that Hartrup had to stop, he was running a crossing route VS man coverage, reach back and make the catch. His defender ran by him, tried to grab him and fell down. I know qbs will throw their receiver open but he was open and it b was a poor throw. Very few of the passes were downfield. Most were swing passes to Strong or Cox, then they made yac. I don't believe Stone has the arm talent to throw downfield and our staff knows it. Worse, the enemy knows it

And you're seeing what Nick sees. Having said that, I would still rather have Stone L over Lyles - ANYDAY!

Disagree.
Against UNI: "He operated and made plays," said SIU head coach Nick Hill. "He scrambled for first downs, he was tough, he made great decisions and he made some big throws."
Most were swing passes because Hill almost never calls for anything in the middle no matter who is at QB - too "3 yds and a cloud of dust" for my taste. SL was under a lot of pressure by MSU D the whole 2nd half. They dominated our O line. The fact that SL was Only sacked twice with no ints under those circumstances is a tribute to his escapability. KL would have been sacked 6 times with 4 ints.
Is he 100% accurate? No - neither is Nic Baker. In fact Baker tends to throw it high a lot.
Guess you missed the UMASS game last year.
I also thought Hill constantly pulling out SL for Williams in the 1st half wasn't ideal. Impossible to get into a rhythm that way. Just go with Williams if you think he gives you the best chance to win.

@mr_woogers I think we need to agree to disagree and stop the back and forth haranguing. Yes, I think Stone is better than Lyles but all we are really saying is that he's not as bad as Lyles. Neither one are good, and I think Baker is a little less bad than these two
Stone guided them to one TD against UNI, Williams threw the long TD pass. I see Stone with happy feet, you don't but I think you are looking thru rose colored glasses. We have excellent talent with Cox, Lenoir, Elliott, Strong, Williams, Hartrup and several young TE's. But we STILL don't have a QB that can stretch defenses with the long ball, or read defenses. Still.
Why do people have to trash the players who are doing their best with what the coaching staff gives them I am sure they feel bad enough after a tough Saturday they don't need to read a bunch of disgruntled fans coaching decisions yes they are paid and should take some criticism but players are doing their best to their abilities so let us be supportive and try to get better in the future thanks for listening
