Huge, huge matchup this weekend. Bears are 0-2 in conference and will be looking for redemption.
Hill is 0-2 against Petrino, so I'm guessing this game means a little more to him.
Really looking forward to this weekend's game. Petrine has the Bears on a big upswing. First coach that I think I can remember that's been able to do that with MSU's football program. Hope The Dawgs continue to get it done. No let downs!
The game this weekend is huge. This is pretty much a must win for MSU (could likely still make the playoffs if they lost to us and then won out, but not a guarantee).
For SIU, if they are able to get a win this weekend, the schedule lines up pretty good for them to win out until a home game with NDSU which could decide at least a share of the MVFC title (boy wouldn't that be fun).
I expect MSU will play much better than they did against UND. It looks like they are going to get a couple of their D-Linemen back for this game (they were down 3 or 4 guys at that position last week) which would go a long way towards shoring up their run defense. They got gashed last week. Shelley is going to be a problem no matter what, but we have to keep him contained or we could be in for another UIW game (SDSU and UND both did a great job of this). We've been much better against the run this year, so if we can keep that up and get some pressure on the QB, I like our chances.
Our offense and Hill have to show up for this game, 19 points isn't going to cut it. I'm hopeful we will be able to run the ball effectively and if not, at least get our bubble screen/ swing pass game going. Baker has been playing clean mistake free football lately and we'll need that to continue. I really wish we had another WR that could stretch the field who didn't have the last name Cox. In any case, we have enough play makers to put some points on the board, so let's do it...34 seems like a nice number and we could very well need it.
I wouldn't say this is a must win for us, but it sure would give us a bit of breathing room!
Missouri State owns us since Petrino got there. Would be pleasantly surprised with a win on the road here but if SIU takes care of business the rest of the way with the teams they should beat, they should be fine. Which is a huge swing from when they were 0-2 headed to Northwestern.
We have to have that pass rush we've had lately, and the O can't get conservative and take a half off.
Massey and Sagarin both have them by a point. Craig Haley of The Analyst has THE SOUTHERN ILLINOIS SALUKIS!!

MVFC: No. 17 Southern Illinois (3-2, 2-0) at No. 20 Missouri State (2-3, 0-2)
Kickoff: 3 p.m. (ESPN+)
Notable: The early season fortunes have been in reverse with SIU on a three-game winning streak and Missouri State on a three-game losing streak. Both defenses have already been hurt by the pass, and it’s one of the better QB duels in the MVFC, if not nation with SIU’s Nic Baker (4,327 passing yards, 36 TD passes in the last 18 games) vs. MSU’s Jason Shelley (average of 307.8 yards of total offense with 45 total TDs in last 17 games). The all-time series is tied 22-22.
The Pick: Southern Illinois
We can't lose to the Moe State stooges 3 times in a row. I like the Dawgs in this one.
I wish I was as optimistic. I don't see us knocking off MSU at their place, despite how we've been playing lately. I suspect Petrino will have his team looking to redeem their season with a big win today.
Here's hoping I'm wrong.
Unfortunate news, Kam Bowdry is out. He’s one of the key guys clogging up the run lanes. Hopefully, they don’t lose a step. Going to be critical to limit their run game and keep their QB in the pocket!
Nice pick on Shelly for the D
Not sure why it has SIU #24 on the scorebug
Defense good…offense bad
SIU goes 3 and out after the pick and Missouri State goes down and scores
Missouri State 7
SIU 0
10:10 1st
Ran that right down our throats…DT’s got owned that entire drive.
Looks like it's going to be a long day

Yup...

Finally brought in PJ Jules to help with the run. Kid can't cover my grandmother in the passing game. And she has been dead for 25 years. But he can play the run.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
Review that catch. Looked impressive, but I would review it.
