I should probably hold of on this post until tomorrow, but I feel pretty strongly about this, so F it!
I'm assuming--I hope wrongly--that we won't be selected for the playoffs tomorrow. If we're not, that means the season ended today. Bummer if that's the case, but I'm having a really hard time mustering up disappointment. I'm just wondering if anyone else is with me on that.
So, a question (actually three):
In all honesty, if someone had told you back in July that we would finish 7-5, with only a relatively narrow loss to the #1 team standing between us and a playoff bid, would you have been disappointed at that news or, like me, pretty much over the freaking moon? 😀
How about the same question after the season opener against SEMO?
Or again the same question after the 10/12 loss to ISU put us at 2-4?
It would be great to make the playoffs, but if we don't, I'm still going to be fine with a 7-5 season.
Weird year. Very disappointing first half (particularly the performances against SEMO and Illinois State), and an excellent second half. I don’t let them off the hook for the subpar first six games but it’s been an impressive turnaround that took a lot of character and resilience (and, in fairness, a softer late schedule).
Hoping they can hold onto Williams and upgrade the QB play for next year.
After the Redturd game, I was ready to axe Hill. Very impressed with the rest of the season though. It's a shame we didn't get that TD against NDSU - dull play calling there - might have helped. I am encouraged though.
Next year we have an even tougher schedule. N.D. also joins the MVFC.
- 09/03 - at UT Martin
- 09/12 - at Wisconsin
- 09/19 - Southeast Missouri
- 11/21 - at North Dakota
We lose some quality players:
Jeremy Chinn S
Tre’ Strong CB
D.J. Davis RB
Nigel Kilby TE
Madre Harper CB
Cody Crider OLB
Nick Raby DT
Kyonta Stallworth DT
Jacob Marnin C
Ernest Dye Jr. OT
Malik Haynes DT
Blake Parzych DT
But All the RBs (except DJ - big loss there), QBs, kickers, and receivers (minus Kilby) are back, as well as many linemen and linebackers. I'm excited about the development of Williams, Lenoir, Cox, Elliott, Lee, and hopefully the QBs. I think we can be better if the QB play improves. Playoffs here we come!
Decent OOC schedule; and getting our annual FBS win next year in Madison will help our resume if we're a bubble team again next season.
(Think positive!)
Go Dawgs!
Fifty players made the MVFC honor roll. Impressive. Congrats!
