@mr_woogers Stone N left at the end of 2022 spring. I think. My understanding no more football and working.

@resaluki-88 I agree! Finally a manageable number of QBs. Kind of surprised Zabrowski left. My thinking is he realizes Baker is probably QB1 just simply based on experience, Lindauer is 100% back from shoulder surgery, and Simmons is much improved. I’m guessing it was time to make a move if he wanted to be a starter. This will be Bakers last season, Lindauer has 3 more, and Simmons 4 more.

The Dawgs are playing Austin Peay for their first game of the season.  AP just had a tragety last night:

Bucky Dent wrote this? Sounds like AI - very weird phrasing and I didn't know we had 5th and 6th graders on the team! No wonder we lost the last 4 games last year.

Former Saluki.

Nick really missed the boat on this guy. Was one of the top players in Florida HS, won a D2 Nat'l Champ. at West Florida after leaving here, last year was the 2nd leading passer in FBS. He had entered the transfer portal - Louisville wanted him - but decided to go back to WKU.

@mr_woogers IMO Nick has missed the boat on handling his QB room. I’ve watched one guy get meaningful snaps in games and practices the last few years. We’ve had two FBS QB transfers not touch the ball in game situations. Why bring them in to sit? Our passing stats are deceiving. There’s no vertical game and no dual treat game from that position at SIU. Throw in our inability to run and it’s a bad offense for big plays and points.

Agree with everything you said. Our passing stats are inflated because we can't run the ball - a huge problem. When you let a Kare Lyles start at this level, you have to wonder what NH is thinking sometimes.

Notice UNI brought in a transfer from Michigan State, Theo Day, and he soon replaced their 2-year starter McElvain, now the starter at Central Arkansas. Day is one of the top returning QBs in FCS.

Cole Kelley transfers from Arkansas to SE La and wins the Payton award - now in the NFL. Lindsay Scot Jr transfers from LSU to UIW and wins the Payton award - now in the USFL.

Austin Reed passed for 4000+ yards last year!

etc.

Let's hope we have a running game this year.

If we have a solid O-line, we’ll have a good running game.  If we can’t run block, Baker will be slinging it all over the field.

If SIU isn’t good this year, I’d be surprised if Baker was one of the top 5 reasons why.  Baker is very underrated here.  He’s won SIU big games in spite of O-Line struggles and injuries to his weapons and a lack of run game.

We’ve been fortunate to have Baker.  Hoping we have some solid prospects waiting in the wings.

He's overrated IMO. We've had better QBs leave. He has games where he's very good. Other times he's just off. His size is a real issue. Rarely do we pass into the middle. Also not especially mobile, although he surprised me a couple of times last year. Fact is, teams like UNI, NDSU, SDSU, and Mo State have been better at that position the last few years. Much better.
