HS played well, especially for his first start. With DJW we may score more points, but SEMO still lights up our D. Their Oline dominated us and that would not change. And we still couldn't run the ball, except for maybe a few DJW self-made runs. I doubt having Lester or Benefield would have made any difference at all in the run game. We averaged 2.1ypc. Awful.
It's a rebuilding year - don't expect much.
The good news is we beat SEMO in volleyball!
The injuries continue to pile up for this team on both sides of the ball, and I don’t think the QB play is going to be good enough to put the team on his shoulders, even with a pretty good WR group. The preseason buzz of Southern’s experienced offensive line being a real strength has not materialized, and now that group is getting banged up.
Don’t like to say it, but I’d be pleasantly surprised if this doesn’t turn into a sub-.500 season.
Never seen so many injuries to key/best players. Bohanek, Williams, Lester, Benefield, Iverson Brown, several on both O & D lines, etc. We were going to have to outscore a lot of good teams before the injuries and that just won't happen now without DJ. Simmons is decent, but not in the same league as Williams. The injuries continue to pile up for this team on both sides of the ball, and I don’t think the QB play is going to be good enough to put the team on his shoulders, even with a pretty good WR group. Thank you once again to 2011 and Mr. Woogers for sharing ESPN+ info.
I was finally able to watch the contest last night. I was expecting a lot worse to be honest. We were leading heading into the 4th qt. when fuel was low, injuries mounted, as well as ill timed penalties.
Positives I witnessed: Simmons had some solid/good throws for first downs. No interceptions. Managed the game plan. Redshirt frosh RB from Ohio State looked good. Crowd looked simply amazing.
Negatives: Secondary confusion/missed assignments. O-Line run blocking poor. Red zone frustration.
SEMO is a very good team. They should win a lot of games in their conference, and perhaps even win it. High octane offense, defense that makes plays and is physical, and a overall well coached team.
Side Note: BYU is 4-0 and ranked #22
I don’t know if anyone else listens to Nick Hill’s press conferences on Tuesdays, but watching/listening to the interaction between Hill and Jake Siegel from WSIL is hilarious. Jake asks some real head scratchers and you can tell Hill gets annoyed.

I have noticed as well. Mr. Siegel's questions very often seem to be indeed questionable! 🙂 Coach Hill keeps it under control however. Just part of the job I guess.
I think some of you are over reacting.
with the starting QB SIU wins this game.
You mean the one who's out for 4-6 weeks? Where's the solace in that?
If he’s out six weeks, then red shirt him. We’ll be well out of playoff contention by then.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
@beadmedaddio Can DJW redshirt? He got a medical redshirt his 2nd year at Murray. Don't know if you can get more than one.
