@saluki3peat

You can disagree with me all you want and I welcome it.  But to accuse me of "having an agenda" because I don't think Baker is a great QB?  That's just stupid and uncalled for.

@rockin-dawg Well, calling a QB who is 9-1 as a starter “barely adequate” and highlighting his mistakes while totally ignoring everything else just struck me as strange and lopsided regarding an 18- or 19-year-old sophomore who already has accomplished what he has for SIU. Did not mean to offend and will try to be less stupid in the future.

The "agenda" crap just needs to go away. FFS, what does that even mean?

I must say that I'm with rockin', at least at this point: I'm not seeing the greatness others seem to be seeing, despite the 9-1 record. Which is not to say that there isn't potential for it, but there is still just too much bone-headed stuff going on for me to get aboard the Great QB train. I like his game, and I like his scrappiness, but he has a lot to learn. When he learns that, I'll be on board. And yes: I know he's still a kid. I really hope to see him develop, because there's lots of room for that.

It could also be that rockin'--if he's anything like me--is still a bit baffled by the comment(s) last week (or two weeks ago?) about him being an FCS POY (MVP? Whatever) candidate. Huh?

We won Saturday because of the D and ND not having a kicker worth a shit. We scraped by twice earlier. I'm not convinced that's going to continue just because a guy is a "winner."

Not hating. I'm just saying that gaudy records have a tendency to evaporate in the face of bone-headedness. Clear that up, and I have no doubt that Baker will be headed for the HOF. He's clearly a winner and a scrappy MF. Hope he is also a learner.

They won Saturday because of a defense that gave up 474 yards, had no sacks and no turnovers?🤷‍♂️ They won the game I watched because they made just enough plays on both sides of the ball and special teams to beat a good FCS team

Look, I never said Baker was great yet. He did lead SIU to its two biggest wins in recent memory based on national rankings…and he was MVFC Player of the Week both times, so someone other than me and Nick Hill thought he played pretty well in big situations. Agenda was a poor choice of words. I should have just left it at he has been way better than “barely adequate” I will try to be less boneheaded going forward.

Ok can you we kiss and make up now. Nick is our QB and has never lost to an FCS team as a starter. He has started against some legit FCS teams

There have been stretches where NB has looked really, really good.....and then others where I want to see Stone Norton. Hopefully he'll keep improving.

I think he's best when we run the no huddle and the team can get into a rhythm. Sometimes our play calling leaves a lot to be desired...that's on Nick-not Nic.

The most important thing is Hill believes in Baker they are winning and growing as a program and that is that matters. Our opinions of who should be playing are only that. I do not hear anyone on here say anything about any other players because every player misses an assignment during the game so to call out one player in my opinion is not warranted

no kissign and making up.  meet at the saluki statute 1 hr before kickoff on Nov 6.  duke it out.  winner take all.  ticket proceeds to S-I.

Good point re: the defense; dumb comment on my part.

I think you misread my remark about "bone-headedness"; I was referring to some of NB's plays, not you!

Again, I hope Baker continues to progress. If he does, we're in good hands for the next two years.

@austinsaluki I knew who you were referring to. And your comment was not dumb. We all want what is best for SIU. I probably overreacted trying to defend Nic.

The "missed assignment" comment I made was directed at the North Dakota defense, not Nic Baker.  It seems we have some mixed opinions of Baker's performance so far.  I wish I had more confidence in him.  I honestly expected to see Stone Norton in the second half.  But if Nick Hill has confidence in Baker, that's what counts.  Our opinions mean nothing really!  🤣

I was talking about team wide missed assignments on  SIU not anyone else dropped balls missed blocks and tackles etc team sport QB gets more blame and credit than he probably deserves

You are correct about opinions. That being said, it never even entered my consciousness to change quarterbacks in the second half.

"Rockin" You trying to stir the pot here with a two week break before our next game to get some discussion going lol?  Interesting your perspective on Baker at this point.  While he may have some growing pains as he develops it is clear the young man has skills and is the obvious starter.  He will make mistakes along the way, but one must keep in mind he is early in his development.
