The 2021 fall football season gets started with another game between SIU and SEMO. Last year SIU won 20-17 on a last second field goal in the only football game played in 2020.
SEMO is coached by former Salukis linebacker coach Tom Matukewicz. Coach Tuke led SEMO to back to back playoff appearances in 2018 and 2019 before going 4-4 last season
SEMO was picked tied for 2nd with Austin Peay and behind Murray State in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll

I think SIU needs to be 2-1 after 3 games to have shot at playoffs. IMO this game is a must win looking at our schedule.
Dayton might be in the Pioneer League but they're not going to be an easy game
I agree. Dayton will be a difficult game. Especially coming off a game vs a physical Kstate defense.
FYI, KState opens at home against a tough Stanford team. I hope they take us lightly.
Dayton won at Indiana State last year.
SEMO will be tough. In 2019, they kicked our butts and ran all over us there with Geno Hess (pre-season All-American) and Zion Custis. Those guys are still around. Hope our run defense is much improved.
Their QB won a NJCAA National Championship at Hutchinson CC and beat out a Louisville transfer for the starting job. (80% completions)
They also have an excellent punter and good WRs. Lots of FBS transfers. Seems like they always play us tough anyway.
Their first three games are us, at Sam Houston, and at Missouri! Tough schedule!
That’s a good looking helmet.
Hope the Dawgs show up on D. Have to stop the run and get pressure on their QB. Team with fewest TO’s wins. Just not much margin for error when these two play.
If you're going to the game, looks like SEMO's south grandstands will be unavailable:
wow!! Move the game to Saluki stadium. No way there’s enough seating with just the visitor side being open. What a mess.

They really should move it to Carbondale. You have to imagine the game won’t be televised now that the press box is condemned.

Don't see that happening. They'll figure out something - maybe body cams like the police. They might have to put a camera up in the north grandstand and also have a lot of ground level views.
Stadium is ancient - 80 years old (1930) and the problematic side is concrete. Sounds like the old part of McAndrew.
Anybody know how many seats the north stands hold? Just can’t see how this is going to work. Will any temporary seating be made available? I hate to drive all the way to SEMO to have a seat that you can’t hardly move or see from. SEMO is a joke for waiting until game night eve to announce this. You can’t tell me they didn’t know this before.
Plot twist: It was a planned event to announce it day before gameday to build the SIU-SEMO "War for the Wheel" rivalry both schools seem to be craving..
..And, I've gotta say, it's kinda working....
What the actual hell, SEMO? How does a Division 1 program let something like this happen? The grandstand is bad enough, but the press box??? There's inspection companies out there that specialize in this kind of stuff, you know. It would have took some planning, money, and coordination, but I believe, SEMO, that you could indeed pull it off.
Mercy.
well, it will pretty much be a home game for us. SEMO is limiting capacity to 3,000 fans, which is roughly what the visitors section holds. as of a few minutes ago, they had not hit the 3,000 number. they say most of their fans rarely buy tickets in advance, and thus they will be out of luck when they show up. they say whoever has one of those 3,000 tickets will have a seat unless they want to stand.
i say we take over the place.
complete cluster#$%@
