Yes! It really was.
That it was unexpectedly lopsided makes it even more so.
Wish I could have been there.

Does anyone know if they were SIU guys or just some random clowns doing the game remotely?I hate when announcers talk about all these meaningless stories while the game is going on. Sheez, might as well be listening to a pre-game show. I get it is a blow out, but how about more replays, so we can actually get some action. Sure hope future ESPN+ telecasts are better than this NoDoz commercial.
No doubt these teams are going in different directions. AP to FBS? God have mercy on their souls.
Solid win Salukis. Nice job.
May need another miracle in DeKalb, but I feel good about this team.
March on triumphantly!

Has to be a couple broadcast students at SIU etc. If not, Southern needs to get the brightest/least cringe cub Radio/TV up front immediately.
Nobody wants to do these ultra cheap “local” broadcasts.
At least some of the lousy road ESPN people have some personality.

They’re the ones that can get us where we haven’t been in 15 years.
This was the first time I have ever listened to an entire SIU radio feed for 3 hours plus, on top of a TV feed, which was about 25 seconds behind.
It helped that we beat them real bad from the start.
I just can’t listen to something that terrible, even though we all have before.
We won. That’s what matters most.

The play-by-play guy- Dominic something or other - is an athletic department employee. He started last year doing womens basketball TV. He was *painful* to listen to last year. I see he hasn't made any improvements.

He’s young, though - he’ll improve. The other guy was our own Stone Lebanowitz, who ESPN has do a lot of our games, and is good. He’s usually paired with someone more experienced in the past. He did a couple games with Mike Trude last year, I believe, and those were good broadcasts.
It’s nice to see our only complaints about last night were about the ESPN+ broadcast. What a great showing that was on the field. Kudos to Hill for having the team ready to play despite an off-season that had a ton of turnover in the staff.
It would be nice if we could come out the next two weeks with just one loss.
It appears we have a full stable of (good) running backs. Luke Martin is going to fit right in, love his enthusiasm. Go Dawgs!

If you're talking about ESPN Plus, that was a grad student Dominic Hoscher and his sidekick was former qb Stone Labanowitz.
Hoscher talks way too much....tries to inject irrelevant factoids in every very wordy sentence...just wears the listener out. Makes my ears bleed.
I thought Nic Baker played a really good game. He missed a couple of passes but for the most part he was very accurate. Had some good runs and scrambles too and really made no bad decisions that I could see. Made an absolutely gorgeous really tough pass for a TD over the shoulder catch by Hartrup, which unfortunately was called back because of a penalty.
The D absolutely smothered Austin Peay until the second and third string came in 4th qtr. I believe Austin Peay only had 10 yards total offense at halftime. D was impressive. Score was 42 - 3 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Score was deceptive. That would have been a total crushing blowout if the first team had stayed in the whole game.
Not sure how good Austin P is though. I think we'll find out more about the Salukis next week when they play a really solid, physical NIU team that beat a really flat Boston College team in overtime.
There was one thing I think Nick Hill should really look into and that is moving Lashaun Lester way up on the running back list .. that kid is twitchy and he's tough. Very well might be our best running back.
The million dollar scoreboard was flaky. It went completely black in the second quarter. Eventually they got it back.
Listening to the radio broadcast the new team did extremely well for their first time but they did mention that Lester would probably be higher on the depth chart if he could have stayed healthy during fall camp apparently missed a few practices here and there with nagging injuries hopefully he stays healthy and makes a big impact
Kayleb Wagner TD was icing on the cake, as well as feel good story of the night for me.

Exactly. It was hard to listen to them. Can we somehow communicate that to the Uni? A deaf mute would have done a better play by play.
Although it wasn’t a very good call of the game on ESPN+, the bigger issue was the very shaky camerawork, missing a TD out of a commercial, etc.
I still keep the perspective of how incredible it is to have access to all these games compared to a couple decades back but it was a fairly tough watch.
And FWIW I think Martin will be great but he did botch his first TD call (said it was Hartrup instead of Strong). We’ll give him a mulligan. 😛
