After a win vs SEMO and a loss at Kansas State, the Salukis finally get to play at home.
The Dayton Flyers are coached by Rick Chamberlin in his 13th season. Last season, the Flyers opted out of the Spring season because of COVID. In 2019, the Flyers went 8-3 and 6-2 in the Pioneer League including a season-opening win at Indiana State. The Flyers featured 3rd round draft pick of the New Orleans Saints Adam Trautman in 2019.
The Flyers were supposed to start their season against Robert Morris but saw that canceled due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the Robert Morris program. Instead they started their season last week with a 17-10 home win against Eastern Illinois. Dayton was picked 3rd in the Pioneer League behind Davidson and San Diego.
Meet the Flyers
Dayton's QB is Senior Jack Cook and he threw for 18-32 for 134 passing yards and a passing touchdown and 10 rushes for 46 yards and a rushing touchdown against Eastern Illinois last week. In 2018 and 2019, Cook combined for 5118 passing yards, 53 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 893 rushing yards, and 20 rushing touchdowns. Cook entered last season as the FCS leader in career passing efficiency (162.0) and 6th best all-time. Cook was named to then watch list for the Walter Payton Award and was on the preseason All-Pioneer team.
Dayton's main running back is 5'9 Junior Jake Chisholm. Chisholm rushed 27 times last week for 89 rushing yards and also added 9 catches for 65 yards and a receiving touchdown. In 2019, Chisholm led all of FCS in all-purpose yardage (204.3 yards per game). Chisholm rushed 153 times for 1,129 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2019 and added 21 receptions for 230 yards and 3 receiving touchdowns. He was also used as the main kick returner in 2018 and 2019 combining for 1,146 return yards and 1 kick return touchdown. Chisholm was a preseason third team FCS All-American as an all-purpose runner and was on the preseason All-Pioneer team.
Senior safety Brandon Easterling was named Pioneer League co-defensive player of the week this week for his performance against Eastern Illinois. Easterling led Dayton with 8 tackles and forced a fumble. Easterling was on the watch list this preseason for the Stats Perform Buck Buchanan Award (best defensive player in FCS Football) and was preseason 3rd team FCS All American. He was also on the preseason All-Pioneer team.

These "non-scholarship" schools can be pretty good. (I'm betting they offer some serious academic schollies to athletes.) Dayton beat Ind. St. in Terrible Haute last year and beat EIU last week.
If we're not asleep at the wheel, I predict a blowout, cuz I think we're way better than EIU or ISU.
Massey, which I consider semi-worthless, is picking us 42 - 10. (dropped us one spot for losing a close one at KState - lifted UNI 2 spots for beating a crappy Sac. St. team)

Lot of tickets were available on the website but I’m guessing with the nice weather predicted and it being the first game and a night game, we’ll probably get a good walk-up crowd. Also people might understandably be weary with COVID.
