The big question is, why wouldn't Western Illinois do the same? Their season is over and they can end their season and prepare for September without risking injury just like Illinois State just did. This is a huge slap in the face to the teams that are trying and sacrificing so much to get this season in safely. And it's a slap in the face to SIU who has had a ton of injuries themselves yet are still trying to make their first FCS playoffs since 2009.
SIU has to win out to have any hope for the playoffs. Then it is probably a long shot. Chips have to fall just right. Went from top 5 to probably out of playoffs in one day. Can’t lose by 40 points and make a smaller playoff field.
The 7 win minimum has to be thrown out by the FCS folks! Won't be surprised if more games are cancelled.
FYI - 9 games were cancelled this weekend due to Covid! Playoffs may not even happen. Covid ramping back up in many states with more infectious variants!

It seems to me that if SIU wins the next two games there is little doubt of them making the playoffs. Top Ten Team currently in the toughest conference in the country with two more wins we would continue to move up in the polls. MVCF should get four teams into the playoffs, but of course what we have seen from NCAA selection you never know.

The scary thing is, they're 1-2 against the 3 other teams battling with them for a playoff spot. And the one team they beat, they're not leaving out of the playoffs even if they lose again. Gonna be hard to justify taking SIU over South Dakota State & North Dakota after those beatdowns unless they totally collapse. I think SIU might be on the outside looking in right now again. If they choose to take 4 MVFC teams, then they're obviously fine.

There are only 6 at large bids. 10 automatic bids and 6 at large bids. If MVFC gets 4 in that means the league is taking 1/2 of the at large bids. I hope that happens, but it makes me extremely nervous. We finish with 2 wins and we would probably be 8th or 9th in the final poll.
