I've been thoroughly unimpressed with the offense. Dropped passes by receivers, play calling has been blah, Straub has looked shaky. Bright spots have been the running game and the defense. Glad this is against Murray State.
Offense is pretty bland. Wonder if they’re holding stuff back? They’ve had 2 really good drives and the rest a bunch of nothing.

Certainly possible. Don't want to show everything if you don't have to, especially with Ole Miss coming up. At this point I don't care how pretty this game is just get the W and no one gets injured.
Side note #1 has been awful today. Dropped two passes in his hands and then offensive pass interference on this last play...correction 3 passes.
35-10 Salukis 10:13 3rd
3rd Saluki defensive touchdown
Salukis 42
Racers 10
8:03 3rd
49-10 Salukis, 5:14 left to play
Salukis win 49-10!!

It seems to me that in this pass-happy environment of today's football that offenses take more time to gel over defense. More than a time or two I've heard coaches bemoaning that their offensive game is a "work in progress" over the first few games of the season.
Hey, a win is a win - especially a road win. Confidence builder. Let's hope no one gets smacked around too hard at Ole Urine.

Let’s see. First game and ran vanilla offense emphasis on ran, which this team struggled to run the ball last year. Defense created turnover in game one that is a plus. Also scores for them really came on two turnovers by the dawgs, so another plus. I suspect Straub will be sharper next week versus ole Miss and the playbook gets opened up a bit more. Take it a game at a time without getting too high or low and we will be fine. Hope we compete next week and give ourselves a chance at the end of the game to be in it and have it matter. Take our shot, Go Dawgs.
Hope the Camera work gets better on these Pay games--it sucked big time in the Murray game--students I'd guess are running them--and no graphics

My guess is it’s more of a Murray State thing than an ESPN Plus thing.
Like that D! Nice work Dawgs.
Not sure about MSU's ability, but impressive road win nonetheless.
March on triumphantly!
As a side note I'm really glad to see that the two SIU players injured in the car wreck after the first week of camp made it onto the field last night. Both Logan Crouse and Sam Skinner have returned from their injuries. Crouse played some TE at the end and Skinner had a sack and almost had a scoop and score. He was the one who accidently batted it to his teammate so he could score.
Nice effort last night by the defense. Offense looked like it was the first game of the year. Not sure that beating up on a lower-division OVC school tells us a whole lot about how good the Salukis will be vs. Valley schools later in the fall. But I get why Southern plays Murray and SEMO in the non-conference season. Cheap trips when on the road and a chance for a decent crowd when playing them at home.
Production values are going to vary from school to school, just like it did when the games were on ESPN3. Last night was basically a radio feed and a handful of cameras. Let's just hope that Southern gets a little bit of money from ESPN with the move to ESPN+.
The defense looks improved along with the running game. These two phases of the game were my two main concerns as far as improving on last year. The passing game with the exception of the two TD passes looked off. Qualls had two dropped passes and an offensive penalty. There's plenty of talent there so not really worried about an off passing night, especially being the 1st game. Staub's 1st game since injury so he should improve quickly. Old Miss will be a huge challenge but always enjoy watching Salukis against the big guys.
