I've always thought a fall season was not a true possibility (don't even think it is for the Power 5). Maybe this is a way to still play football this school year? (I'm still not sure we'll be ready to safely take the field by the spring).
Missouri State AD says Bears could still play Oklahoma even if MVFC fall season is canceled
Possible that SIU will still play Kansas - that game would not be available in the spring most likely - $$.

Lets hope not. To put all these kids health in jeopardy to make a few dollars is not ethical. I’ll lose a lot of respect for any school that takes the field this year.

I think playing 1 game with a lot of caution being taken place on both sides is fine, plus the money is kind of important. Who knows what might happen to the program with no FBS game after no NCAA Tournament revenue last year.

"A lot of caution"?
The players and coaching staff are not in a bubble. They will travel in a confined space by plane and/or bus. Social distancing is nearly impossible. The opponents are not in a bubble.
This is a highly contagious disease and we are just beginning to study the short term and long term effects. And it is deadly.
In 6 months Covid-19 deaths exceed the total number of Americans deaths in the Vietnam and Korean Wars combined.

It's one game though, you can take a lot of precautions for just one game. I get not playing a full season, that's a lot harder to contain.
The MVFC was supposed to announce their decision this afternoon. As far as I can tell, they did not.
Next week I guess they'll announce Spring football. Non-conf games up to schools.
FCS playoffs are definitely off this Fall:

That decision has to be made by the players. Putting their health on the line for the school’s financial gain is irresponsible and unethical. If the players want to play regardless, then I have no issue with it. Any player that wants to opt out should be able to do so without punishment.
Definitely no UT-Martin game. Kansas, SEMO, and possibly one other still an option.
"MVFC schools are still permitted to play up to three non-conference games this fall, and Jarnigan said she is actively exploring options. The Salukis have a non-conference game at Kansas on Aug. 29, though that date is likely to change, she said. SIU and UT Martin have agreed to move their Sept. 3 game to an open date in the 2025 season, according to Jarnigan. Southern also has a home game versus SEMO scheduled on Sept. 19."
"We're going to take some time to digest how the league decision will affect our student-athletes and make sure we listen to their concerns," said head coach Nick Hill. "Our players' health and welfare remains our top priority."

Mike Reis did interviews with both Hill and the AD. Sounds like if the players decide they want to play non-conference then SIU is going to try and play 3 if they can get the games. Good listen.
8 game season and only league games.

This whole thing is so messed up. The notion of playing a couple non-conference games in the fall and the conference schedule in the spring seems borderline absurd, but we'll see how it plays out.
Whenever I hear Hill it sounds like he's keeping his players' mental and physical well-being top-of-mind and saying the right things. I don't envy him or any of the other coaches sorting through this unprecedented craziness.
For safety reasons, they should just play all games after January. Hopefully have a vaccine by then.
Split season seems crazy.
