Congrats to Nick!!! SIU won't know how fortunate they are until the end of Nick's tenure.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
Good for Nick and Company. No details about how much the bump was and how long for the extension…I would assume they will put out something on at least the length of the extension at some point.
Well deserved Coach Hill! Let's keep building off last year

From 185 to 211k. Extended thru 2025. Still one of the lower paid MVFC coaches.
Really happy for him and for us too! He has done a good job and we are on the way up. Great to have the continuity and looking forward to his continued success. We need to support he and team hopefully by filling the stadium on game day.

Good for him, unfortunately I think it will stay that way until more people start coming to these games. Pre-pandemic, even when we were good during the Kill and early DL years it was a struggle to get a half full stadium. Hopefully, they continue this momentum and the students and people of southern Illinois start to show up.
Hopefully they were able to give the assistant coaches a bump too.
I've been told that there are many reasons that Nick wants to take the team around to different communities for charitable work. Of course, all the obvious reasons like character building for the young men and the benefits to the communities. But also to expose the positives of the program, school, and each player individually to people on a personal level. He believes this will make the surrounding communities develop a personal positive attachment to the players. People will want to support each player. This should lead to an improved gate.
As I've said before, I personally do not know Nick. But from what I've been told, this sure seems like it comes out of his playbook (no pun intended).

@beadmedaddio That makes a whole lot of sense and hopefully the community responds in kind.I think the brand of football that we play now will help the cause (lots of offensive firepower these last couple of years). Getting the student population to come out to games and stay would be a big win as well. I think winning will help that to some degree.
I think another thing that is a bit more challenging to solve is the start time of the games. I know Hill said he likes the noon games b/c the staff is able to get back home with their families for dinner and I get that, but we always struggle getting people to games with the earlier kickoff times. I know when you start looking at the late October/November time frame, the early starts are also about making the temperature as comfortable as possible for both the fans and players, but we lose a lot of the local community to high school playoff football with those times.
In the end, it's a very hard problem to solve, but winning is always the first step! Excited for the fall and can't wait to get down there for some games this year.
@siu_2011 I agree! Later starts would help bring fans out. Tailgate longer, more time for travel, and nothing beats football under the lights. College kids are barely out of bed by noon. Noon should be the tailgate start time with games around 6. JMO.
teh early strat on parents day is a nod to local business's and restuarants who get increaseed business after games that end before dinner times.
late season gagmes have poorr attendance no matter when the game kicksoff.
