The NY Jets signed Craig James to a futures contract today.  James spent the entire 2022 season on the Jet’s practice squad.

DB Craig James (5-10, 195)
James spent the last three seasons with the Eagles, appearing in 18 games. He had 17 tackles, 1 pass defense and 1 fumble recovery on 83 snaps in two seasons with Philadelphia (2019-20). He also took 317 snaps on special teams. James first signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Illinois in 2018 and appeared in three games as a rookie. He began his college career at Minnesota before leading the Salukis with 3 interceptions and 9 pass defenses as a junior. He was named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer team.

Typically, futures contracts are minimum-salary deals with little or no signing bonus. Most players signed to futures contracts will be fighting for a spot in camp; teams aren't going to invest much into players who may well be cut the following autumn.

The Carolina Panthers trade Madre Harper to the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He signs a futures contract today.

Good article on MyCole Pruitt on the Atlanta Falcons website:

Tori: MyCole Pruitt

Pruitt was one of the nicest surprises of 2022 for me. Truth be told, I didn't pay him much attention when the Falcons picked him up early in training camp. As far as tight ends went, it's hard to look past Kyle Pitts. However, when Pitts suffered a season-ending knee injury with a month and a half left to go in the season, we were forced to look past him. What we found when we did was the asset Pruitt can be.

This is a guy who has a history with Arthur Smith and works well in his tight-end-friendly system. Pruitt got his start on the practice squad before being brought up to the 53-man roster in October, where he remained for the rest of the year.

He had solid production in the games thereafter, too, finishing the season with 16 catches for 150 yards. Oh, and four of those 16 catches? They were touchdowns.

Ridder's first NFL TD pass goes to MyCole Pruitt in Week 18

From the time he was brought up in October until the end of the season in January, Smith often thought of Pruitt as an unsung hero in run blocking, too. Smith said a few times there are things Pruitt did on the field that no one would ever know the full extent of how much it truly helped this offense at times. That should be rewarded.

The Falcons will get Pitts back in 2023, but that doesn't take away the need for depth, and Pruitt played that role as well as anyone in 2022. So much so that I think it warrants him returning to Atlanta on another short-term deal at least.

Seahawks withdraw the restricted free agent tenure from Ryan Neal.   He is now unrestricted and can sign with anyone.

Come on Bears... go get him!  They need some help in the secondary.

Bears secondary is actually their strength.  They have Eddie Jackson and Brisker at safety.  Don’t see a spot for him.  I’m hoping Neal ends up on the Eagles or a contender, I hate that Chinn is wasting away in Carolina

I see Craig James had three tackles (including one TFL) in last night’s Hall of Fame Game for the Jets.  Currently listed as third string on the depth chart.

Neal will have a great opportunity on a bad Bucs team.  Wish we could get a Saluki on a playoff contender.  Having Chinn stuck in Carolina sucks.

Yeh it's a shame to waste a talented Saluki on a crappy team. Would love to see some of these alums on the Bears.
