I can't believe anyone hasn't posted anything about the scrimmage as of yet. I wasn't able to attend. Of course, there has been nothing written about it in the press or on siusalukis.com. Can anyone please fill us in on your impressions of individual players and the team in general based on todays scrimmage?

At least you got a thread up!  But your point about SIU Athletics not being covered anymore is correct.

If anyone from this board goes to the scrimmage, can we get a report? Thanks

What would be even better is the athletic department setting up a camera and stream it.  Don't need announcers.  Don't need a camera operator.  Simply set it up so you can see the whole field and turn it on.  The football team has multiple cameras set up anyway.  And can't be worried about giving up corporate secrets.  It's open to the public.  Some of the big schools have their spring games on ESPN.  Not too private.  Even though ESPN's viewership is down.

I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!

It's been on SIUSALUKIS.com for two weeks:

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Saluki fans are invited to bring their families to a day of fun and football on Saturday, April 16, when SIU will host its annual Spring Game at Saluki Stadium, followed by an Easter Egg Hunt for kids.

Parking lots will open at 8 a.m. for anyone wishing to tailgate. From 11 a.m.-noon, the Saluki plaza area outside the stadium will be set up with vendors, food items, games and giveaways, including autographed Saluki Football posters. River Radio will host a pregame show on-site, with interviews with coaches and players, starting at 11 a.m.

The Saluki Football team will take the field at noon, and the Spring Game will conclude with an Easter Egg Hunt on the field at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Admission is free. Season tickets for the 2022 season will be on-sale at the Cook Portable Warehouse outside the stadium.

Defense had the upper hand today.

Offense appeared to be pretty vanilla. Hopefully that’s the reason the O struggled to move the ball with any consistency. The Defense looks stout at all levels. LB play was impressive. #10 and #12 both dominated at inside LBs.  Defense looks better and more athletic than last year.
OL is a big concern and QB play IMO. Cox, Strong, and Lindauer were not available.
Baker completed 70% of passes but only hit 1 good shot downfield. Huge drop off after Baker. I thought Zabrowski looked the next best under center just not very explosive. Norton went 1-8 but had 1 nice run. Simmons had a tough day and Foss did hit a 25 yard TD in his only snap late in the scrimmage. The young FG kicker had a nice day. Hit a couple 40 yarders straight into the wind. The only punter listed has some work to do. Missed hit a couple out of bounds and never really hit a booming punt.
Moving forward Hill and the dawgs need to find a couple transfers out of portal that can help immediately on the OL and QB1 and QB2 must get better.

We've got the Austin Peay OL transfer coming in. That's all I see as far as O line transfers, is that correct?

If Lindauer is still recovering from last years injury I wonder when he will be ready to practice. He probably has the biggest upside of any of the current backups. Would love to see him compete with Baker for the starting spot when and if he is healthy. He has size, arm strength and mobility.

Hopefully Hill can find a couple more OL transfers to help add depth to that position.

Strong and Cox not available yesterday certainly limited the offense a little bit.

Should be a good open competition for QB2. Zabrowski, Norton, and Lindauer.

Defense looks deep at all positions. If we can score a few points we will have a chance every game.

I did see the Austin Peay OL transfer kid. I’d like to get a couple more to help with depth. We look awful young in that room.

I think Pop Jones can have a breakout impact at RB if he can get a decent amount of reps. He is a big time talent.

I was very impressed with him in the few minutes he got to play last year. Fast and shifty! I'll be surprised if he isn't the starter. Can't say I cared for NH's constant substituting of RBs last year.

Any word on Javon Williams?  He had a great first year then has really tapered off, barely getting the ball last year it seemed.  Injuries? Behind the scenes drama? More competition?
