I disagree. Football is still exciting and has the potential to do a lot of good for SIU. As bad as we are, I still have hope, but I'm afraid Nick Hill is not the guy. I thought he would be, but I think our recruiting is just not good enough. Reminds me of Lennon. Some talent but lots of gaps. Also, not crazy about the D coach. Nick'll get his one more year, but I don't expect much. Surely we can be as good as Missouri State and Western!
Hill is one of the lowest paid coaches in the MVC - that will have to change to upgrade the coaching.
Really thought we would be better this year, and the first three quarters at Ole Miss were encouraging. D.J. Davis has impressed and our wide receivers are very good, but I think it's evident that Sam Straub is just an average MVC QB (that first pick he threw was awful) and the D is not very good. (300 yards rushing to SEMO and blown pass coverages last night)
I think we can beat Indiana State and maybe one other. Be great if we went to Redturd State and played a great game and whipped them.
Yes!
Gotta have football, don't care how it is disparaged. Yes, it's ugly now, but it's a GOOD thing for SIU and the whole "Salukiway is POS" theme, is nonsense. There's a lot wrong at SIU. But football, for all of its warts, is not one of them.
March on triumphantly!
This is a joke. 90% of the athletic department is a joke. We will be lucky to finish 2-9.
This quote from Mike Trude during the game pretty much sums up what a joke we are:
"South Dakota has a couple of options here, and they can run either one." Great insight Mike. Time for you to retire. You weren't that good to begin with.
Football has a high school coach, volleyball coach destroyed the program in 18 months, basketball coach is a BBQ sauce huckster, swimming/diving is on probation, baseball is a joke, the AD sued the university when he broke his own contract when he was the football coach.
Nothing but one big steaming pile. Pull the plug.
Craving a McBride Special!
The original Saluki Way proposal was 75% academic, and was also to be funded 75% with private funding. Wonder where SIU would be with that proposal? I get McDump was a Rust Bucket in the day, but maybe some of it could have been fixed and some of it could have been temporality kept together until donor funding that didn’t need student money was put in place. The only athletics project that really needed done was the Arena. Imagine where SIU would be if, say, SIU had put some money in a new building for computer science. I could go on about how Southern Illinois needs more STEM educated people with college degrees, but I digress.
Anything I miss with the game? Sounded like another subpar performance. I am not wanting Hill’s head, but I suspect a lot of people do based on this thread and what I’m reading on Saluki Facebook.
I was out of town and didn't get a chance to see the game, but looking at the stats the defense lost another game for SIU. I know Southern had 3 turnovers, but those things are going to happen when you get into a desperation mode where you feel one side of the football has to do everything to win.
The defense is the problem with this year's version of Saluki football. It sounds like changes with the defensive coaching staff are in order following the season.
It's like watching a bad Jan Quarless film.
exactly what iT is....
Siu football right back where it was 20 years ago. Score at will in 1st half and hold on for fireworks in the 2nd because the defence can't stop the cobden applenockers
It's like watching a bad Jan Quarless film.
Ouch...a mention of Jan!
Is Nick in his final contract year or did we give him a shiny new renewal?
Maybe Kill could quit wasting money padding his staff and HIRE SOME COACHES.
Craving a McBride Special!
The Quarless comps are painful, but also true. I hope Hill can get the defense fixed. Otherwise, we’re back to where we started when Jerry Kill took over the SIU head coaching job.
I still have nightmares of Willie Ponder of SEMO talking shit to the student section after their amazing comeback during the Q years.
After that and other events, the teams swapped sides of the field.
