According to Heff, the top 3 QBs in terms of reps are Stone L. Baker, and Lindauer. After listening to the interview, it felt like Hill was really high on Baker so I wouldn't be surprised to see him slide in to QB1 if he's able to heal up and get reps in at preseason camp. The fact that Stone N. isn't in the top 3 right now and got leapfrogged by Lindauer (at least for now), I wouldn't imagine he'd be able to secure the starting job.

The problem with your post is the first 3 words 😁

If someone else has been to practice and wants to report, I'd love to hear it! 😀

Reis had an interview with Hill after their first scrimmage today (also first day of full pads) and Hill mentioned it's pretty much between Stone L. and Baker on who gets the start at SEMO. He said the others are fighting for QB3 and mentioned how difficult it is to get those guys reps with the limited practice time. I guess we'll see how things progress through camp (injuries are always a concern), but it looks like a two horse race for QB1.

I mean we rode Stone before...the conference is gonna be brutal with like 80+% of starters returning league wide and lots of 22-23yo bodies.

This is where no spring practice hurts a kid like Norton for reps and Lindauer signing late hurts for reps. Just not enough time for equal reps when a team has 4 weeks to prepare for SEMO. Hills interview sounds as if NB and SL are taking majority of the reps and deservedly so. Nice to have depth at QB especially when it’s a long physical season.

He basically said the same things about SL and mentioned  that he proved he can play at the highest level and make big plays .. and completed the ball at the highest level in school history. Stone L. won the starting job 2 years ago, and I'd be surprised if he wasn't the starter. I'd also be surprised if there weren't some injuries and Nic sees time back there. I got no problem with either - both good QBs with tons of confidence that know how to run a team. I think NB has the better arm but is likely to throw more ints. I'm OK with either one.

What do people expect from the defense? Is there hope for improvement?

I think the defense will be improved. Most games where they struggled last year, they couldn’t stop the run. Now they had some injury issues on the D-line, especially at tackle, but they brought in a 3 transfers at that position to build some depth. They get Blankenship back from injury as well so I think they have sured up that position and can move Berner back to end.

I thought our secondary was pretty strong last year and we bring basically everyone back, so we should be better there as well.

I think just like last year it all starts up front and on paper we are much better and deeper, but the game is isn’t played on paper. I think we will have a good idea after SEMO, but I’m hopeful.

Stop the run and pressure the QB. We struggled in both those area’s. 14.5 sacks as a team is not good.

Good stuff. Thank you for the info. Agree about the importance of stopping the run. If we can shore that up, man, this team could be lethal. Can’t wait for the season to start.

Practice highlights if you haven't read them:

A 70 yard TD pass from QB Stone Norton (Nashville, Tn. & FIU) to WR Isiah Hartrup (O'Fallon, Mo.) … on the very next play LB Bryce Notree intercepted a pass and return it for a TD … 2 QB sacks in the red zone for the Saluki defense … QB Stone Labanowitz (Stuart, Fla.) threw a strong back corner end zone strike to All-American receiver Avante Cox (Rochester, Ill.) … Right after one of the red zone QB sacks, Javon Williams (Centralia, Ill.) raced 27 yards for a TD

Few days ago Nic Baker had a 75 yd TD pass to big fr. WR Jathen Jones from St. Louis.

Lots of duplicated jersey numbers - anybody  know why? Just player preference?

@mr_woogers very common in college football for #’s 0-19 to be repeats. After 19 not so much.

Strength of schedule article for teams ranked in the top 25. The top four are all MVFC schools (SIU being #4) and all 6 ranked MVFC teams are in the top 11 of strength of schedule.

This is the gauntlet every year…some of it is self fulfilling in that over half the league is ranked in the top 25, but I don’t think any of the rankings are unwarranted given what we saw the last two years.

I think I heard or read somewhere that Hill was planning to have their initial two deep done by Monday...so hopefully we don't have to wait much longer to see who ended up QB1.

NH discusses QBs around 1:06. Wants to see both guys with the first unit ... to get timing down, etc. Says at some point have to decide who's going to go out there first - not an easy decision - both playing the best they have since coming to SIU - we're going to need both of them without any fall off - just like last year blah blah blah
