From a millennial perspective, I think it’s a bad look for SL to quit on his team. If he believes he deserves the QB1 spot then he should keep grinding for it. I’m sure he would have had a shot this season the way injuries go; it’s happened a couple times already and worked out for him. That said, I wish him the best in the future and love the kind words he had for SIU in his exit tweet. I don’t think the QB position will be a problem this season. Do we have a fully healthy d-line?
I'd give 10x more weight to what I see in a game than to what I see in practice. I imagine Lyles was a "practice" QB and that's why NH picked him over SL and NB. That was a mistake.
Relatively speaking, camp don't mean squat. The numbers do not lie. SL was our best QB in games, and that's ALL that counts.
Water under the bridge now. Stone is gone. Hope Baker is as good as Hill thinks he. Hope he keeps the interceptions down.
Just playing a little Devil’s advocate here, but your thing was “the only stat that matters is W-L” and Stone was .500 QB as a starter. Now I’m not so obtuse as to believe he was responsible for all the losses or the wins for that matter, but Baker is 3-0 as a starter…so there is that.
I think Stone L. played his tail off last year and would have loved for him to see out the rest of this year. I get why he left and his statement made me feel like there was a bit more to it than just losing the job (no mention of any of the coaches). Hope he finds a place he feels comfortable and wish him luck in every game except when/if he plays us.
This is my last comment about it. Just the eye test at the end of the season told me he's a guy we can go far with. We beat Weber and could have won a Nat'l Championship if not for a ref stealing a TD from us in the SDSU game. I'm sorry he's gone, but he's a competitor and wants to play. Perfectly understandable, and I certainly don't consider him a quitter. If he's a quitter, so are guys like Joe Burrow and Justin Fields - some of the very best college QBs I've ever seen....also something that happens all the time in the NFL - Aaron Rodgers wants to leave the Packers because they drafted a future QB!!
Good luck to Stone!
Go Nic! Go Dawgs!!

Aaron Rodgers is about as big of a diva as I've ever seen. I wouldn't use that to defend anyone saying "it happens all the time." And that is coming from me, a lifelong Packers fan who has 1 NFL Jersey...and its an Aaron Rodgers jersey.
I get the frustration, but if this kid quits the day after not being named QB1, I question how much of a "leader" that people claimed he was. Don't get me wrong, I was as impressed with him this past spring as anyone else...But to call him a leader now...I can't honestly do that.
If I am not mistaken Fields and Burrows transfered after the season after they lost the competition also the 2 players went to systems that better matched their skill set better yet they supported their teammates thru a tough season they didn't quit midway thru training camp
Didn't see this move coming. Stone is so well spoken, personable, and fiery - I can see an offensive line and other teammates loving to battle with him. Whatever he lacked in talent, he made up a few points in leadership, IMO. I trust Nick's judgment on this one, he should know the QB position as well as anyone. Now we just have to hope Baker can stay healthy with his small frame. It thins out an overcrowded QB room but we definitely could have used Stone this season. We need one of other five to step up and claim the backup role resoundingly, none of this duck duck goose we've seemingly had going on for the last handful of seasons.
You trust Nick's QB judgement? I'm not so sure. He had Lyles starting over Stone and Nic, and Lyles was a lousy QB, possibly the worst one on the team.. no rush avoidance, no accuracy, no confidence, panicked - just not a leader. I cringed every time he had the ball.
We're going to miss Stone's fiery leadership and his talent!
I trust Hill and I’m guessing his staff and players do as well. I question SL leadership if he walked away from this team over not winning QB1 in what sounded like an equal rep opportunity during camp. It’s college football at a top 10 school. He would have gotten an opportunity based on how many guys Hill went to last year. I’ll be the bad guy here…it’s weak to leave over losing a fair competition for QB1.
In my opinion, 2nd Team All-Conference Stone's too good a QB to be sitting on the bench. He was named the starter over Baker and Lyles in 2019. After coming back from injury, Hill benched SL and stuck with Lyles and we won some games with restricted quarterbacking, thanks to Javon Williams and a good pass D.
Hill's making a mistake I think, but his history with QBs since becoming head coach has not been good until last year, when he finally got it right. (Hill lost the Florida class 6A player of the year Austin Reed who transferred to West Florida in 2019 and promptly won a D2 National Championship, throwing 6 TD passes.)
Labanowitz would be starting at a lot of MVC schools. He was awesome in our first playoff appearance in years, and I don't blame him one bit for wanting to be the guy and leaving.
The numbers don't lie:
GP Effic Cmp-Att-Int Pct Yds TD Long Avg/G
Stone 7 153.06 110-152-4 72.4 1241 8 67 177.3
Nic 4 142.44 50-74-4 67.6 637 3 65 159.2
Time will tell if Nic can get the job done. I sure hope so.
This is how I feel as well.
QB Lindauer out for the season . Shoulder
The great depth at QB is looking pretty slim now.

Feel bad for him, hope he recovers well. Anyone know who QB2 is? I'd guess Norton but haven't heard officially

Yes that’s what I hear

Quite the rationalization. So SL should have stayed and wasted one of his two remaining years of eligibility? And Burrow and Fields did NOT transfer to systems that better matched their skill sets. Both Georgia and Ohio State were ideal for both those QBs. OSU always has great receivers and a great passing game and a great RB or two. The difference between OSU and LSU? NADA.
Ohio State has two 5 star QBs sitting on the bench right now. I personally think they're crazy, when they could be playing for just about any FBS school in the country.
@mr_woogers Never said he shouldn't transfer my point was that the 2 players mentioned did not quit during the season they were good teammates and stuck it out. Also if you look back at the offenses one more traditional pro style and one more read option both went to better systems for their skill set
The great depth at QB is looking pretty slim now.
Need NB to stay healthy and JW might be playing more Wildcat QB than he wanted this year.

Released the two-deep...color me a bit surprised on the DT front. Blankenship and Foxworth both not listed (two that I thought would challenge to start). Not sure if there are some injuries or they just got beat out (no one asked about injuries coming out of camp at the weekly press conference). I'm sure there will be a liberal amount of rotation at DT to keep everyone fresh, but that's what really stuck out to me on D. They did slide Patterson down to SLB from S and Combs (the hero who caught the late TD at Weber State) is the backup there after he switched sides.
Big camp from Hartrup landed him the third spot on the WR group. Strong listed as RB1, but we all know that group rotates quite a bit and as mentioned previously Norton is the backup at QB.
Getting pretty jazzed for the first game. Hopefully the guys are ready to play and we take it to them on Thursday.
