Understanding that it's apples to oranges comparison of basketball to football. But if the SIU AD applies the same principles to winning in football, as he did to hoops, Nick should be very worried about now.

The football program has been in the playoffs, including last year.  Nick should and will be fine.

Making the playoffs in FCS football is a different dynamic than making the NCAA or NIT in D1 basketball.

I think Nick has brought enough to the table, including loyalty, to warrant plenty of patience, but I’m not sure he’s achieved at such a higher level than what Mullins did in basketball (and Hill obviously was given much more time to work with).

Nielsen is weird. Stares at the ground most of the time, calls a TO and doesn't go anywhere near the team.

NH has achieved way more than Mullins. That said, I wouldn't give him an A. Needs to be smarter in recruiting IMO.

USD looks so much faster than us - not even close. They could score 60 in this game if they wanted to.

How much did Hill accomplish in his first five years (what Mullins was given)?

Also, I’d contend the gap between Saluki football and the top of the league (the Dakotas) is as wide as the gap was between Saluki basketball and the top of the MVC.

I’m not here to bash Hill, who I like quite a bit, but I do think the original poster’s comparison has some validity.

I agree with you but I think it's a tougher to put together a winning football program..just the sheer number of players. And we have made the playoffs and won playoff games.

Also agree we're miles away from the top teams in the MVFC. Not close to winning a championship.

Need to recruit better.

Not hating on Hill. Agree he has done a lot for Saluki football and the region. Just wondering what the AD et al are thinking, based on the Mullins decision.

March on triumphantly!

Expectations are higher for SIU Basketball than SIU Football.  The MVC has lost Creighton, Wichita, Loyola the last 15 years and has become more watered down while the MVFC is the SEC of the FCS.  Huge difference between the two.

I agree with the first sentence and that football is a tougher job at SIU than basketball.

Only partially agree with the rest, as “of the FCS” is doing some heavy lifting. Bottom line is you have to be a top 50-60 team in the entire country to make the Dance in basketball unless you catch fire in St. Louis.

Anyways, back to being Coyote feed …
