Less than 48 hours prior to kickoff at Vermillion SD, as SIU goes for their second conference win of the 2019 season (matching the conference win totals in each of Nick Hill's first three seasons as SIU's coach).
South Dakota likes to play fast.
Says here SIU should try to take the air out of the ball, and rely on their own running game as a means of playing keep away from South Dakota.
It's another huge game for the Salukis and their head coach.
(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths
(2) Donald Trump (June 15, 2020) told a group of senior citizens that there would be very few cases of COVID-19 if the US stopped its testing and contact tracing: "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, actually."
(3) Donald Trump [(Jan 20, 2020), when asked if he's worried about a pandemic]: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”
It is another HUGE game for The Dawgs! They need to stay out of their own way (i.e. take care of the ball, when they get in the red zone SCORE, play hard all four quarters, and no stupid penalties). If they don't beat themselves, I think SIU can grab another W this week. Hill & Co. desperately need to take a step forward and this week's game against South Dakota is winnable.
They pass a LOT! and have a very good, mobile QB. The Pass D will get a workout. We just need to run all over them, eat up clock, and get a good pass rush on them.
I hate that box they play in! Awful place to play a college football game.
This is probably the most difficult game they have left save NDSU. If they can get a win here and that’s a big if, I feel like we have a real shot at 7 wins. This would make the NDSU game interesting...if we can hang around in that game and have 7 wins we have a good shot at the playoffs.
This game is winnable. But it'll be tough. Their QB is as good as advertised. Good pocket awareness. Easily escapes pressure. UNI ran a lot of zone and put a spy on him. Didn't do any good. He simply ran away from the spy and often made the first guy miss. Great arm. Is a gunslinger and will put it up for grabs. Ran a lot of 11 personel. Ran mostly RPO. He almost always made the correct decision. It really shows that to be a top flight program you must have a quality QB. It's difficult to win when you have a game manager at QB and not a guy that can win you the game. Lyles is definitely a game manager, at best. Labanowitz appears to be a little better. Nick needs to upgrade. If Nick finds it this hard to find a quality QB, then it proves how few there are out there.
The DL is full of studs. They've got a DE, #92, that'll need some doubling. The DB's can be beat. I was really impressed with the discipline of the OL. Great pass blockers. Solid fundamentals. Absolutely perfect at communicating. Passed off UNI's DLs flawlessly. Doesn't bode well for the DL stunts Petrino likes to run. Special teams did not impress.
Game is in Vermillion and they have the huge advantage at QB and DL. Even though I think we can win, I'm picking SDU by 7. Sorry!!!
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!

We need to run the ball and dominate possession time for sure. Our D needs to play with an attitude, like they did last week!
USD is a young team also. If they can replace their QB, they will be tough next year.
Good start. About to be 7-0 Dawgs
7-7 3:16 left in the first quarter
And quickly 14-7 SIU
Williams putting on a show 21-7 Dawgs
Javon Williams is making Hill look like a much better coach. Sometimes all it takes is a few good players. I also like the new DC
SIU up 27-7
Love the way the D is playing. Love the way the offense is playing. Keep it up Dawgs!
Yea a pretty impressive showing
34-7 at the half and get the ball to start the second half
SIU 34
South Dakota 7
Halftime
