Nick's job is going to start getting even harder.  He's going to have to start working on keeping his staff together as larger programs come knocking.  No doubt many have already taken notice.  Good problem to have.  How many times did we hear this past week about Mark Farley and his 20+ years as UNI's head coach.  I bet in 25+ years the same kind of talk will accompany Nick.  We can only hope.

I don't think Pitino will be the DC for much longer, I could see a Power 5 program poaching him.  He's done an incredible job since coming over and has guys like Jeremy Chinn getting drafted in the 2nd round.  But considering where the program has been, it's not a bad thing that members of your staff might get poached.  It's much better than the alternative!

I don't think Pitino will Ever be the DC!!  😀

PETRINO maybe!

Labanowicz was awesome yesterday. I look forward to seeing him the rest of the year. Fingers crossed he doesn't get injured.

Another huge game next week. This schedule is unforgiving.

Agree. He made a couple of Mahomesish 3rd down conversion passes with a UNI beast dragging him to the ground that were just incredible. Made a number of BIG passes too. Love the confidence and the way he ran the team - didn't miss a beat from Baker and maybe even an improvement. He sensed that rush around him and made it tough on the D with his ability to escape and make something good happen.

I just watched the game.  I agree with all the props already given.  But my game ball is going to the entire coaching staff.   I would have panicked yesterday on offense and abandoned the run too early and on defense gone entirely zone.  Both would have been wrong.  Good coaches don't make those silly mistakes.  I don't think we fully realize what an absolutely incredible job these guys have done this year so far.  Look no further than the second half performance in each game.  All the adjustments have worked perfectly.  Of course forget the UND game.  You can't blame the players getting discouraged in that game.  They all knew that their qb couldn't protect the ball and give them a chance to come back.  He being the starter over either Nic or Stone L has always been a curiosity to me.  I think Lyles would be able to come back this fall with the covid rules.  With Stone Norton becoming eligible and the other two guys in the qb room in addition to Nic and Stone L, I can't believe Nick will burn a scholly on him.  But I digress.

Agree! I thought Stone or Nic would be the starter before game 1.

I like our team's talent and the coaching staff. Think the recruiting Nick keeps touting is really starting to show!

I have to admit . . . It has taken me nearly 24 hours to absorb the significance of yesterday. It has been a very long time since I truly thought Southern was a "good" football team. As of yesterday, I can honestly say Southern is a GREAT football team. We are deep and talented and can absorb losses at key positions and still win.

Regardless of how the game ended, National Championships require some level of luck or karma. Take care of business next week . . . and I believe, in my humble opinion, we can talk championships for the first time in nearly 40 years.

GO SOUTHERN GO ! ! !

PS -- I look forward to tearing down the goal posts at Saluki Stadium the same way we did it in 1983. 😎

Go Southern Go ! ! !

We haven't talked about the loss of DL Blankenship, the transfer from Tulsa. He was one of our best DL and really dominated NDS. He tore his quad a couple weeks ago and probably out for season. Big loss. We're not that deep in the DL.

He was becoming a real find.  Unfortunately his replacement is no bargain.

I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!

I wish more fans would be allowed to show up to support this team.  I think we are in the midst of a historic season and it would be nice for the football program to be able to capitalize on it with larger attendance.

I drove all over Belleville Saturday trying to figure out where in town we were playing.  I finally gave up when I saw the Northern Illinois team bus speeding out of town.

This is all on the state and IDPH.

SIU...conferences...the Pope...everyone...has no influence, let alone choice. 20% capacity max. Illinois State has the same capacity this spring. EIU. WIU. Same. Football, baseball, basketball, softball, soccer, equestrian.

@mikereis

No doubt frustrated with the situation.  Hopefully by the summer things will get back to normal, and certainly by this fall.

Go Dawgs

Any chance of moving games to Cape Giradeau in the free state of Missouri?

As I mentioned recently, there are still a few select tickets available for the remaining 2 home games, just go to siusalukis.com. Tickets have been available for a few weeks. What's the use in complaining when you can actually still buy tickets?

Less than zero.  Get serious and go buy tickets.
