So I saw on social media a group of people in the general admission section (students or others) getting talked to about their noise making during the game.
Does anyone know what was really going on?
Basically I am done with SIU athletics, football is asking fans not to make noise, and the whole moment of silence for oppression, then still kneeling during the anthem.
This group, a few students and alumni, were in to the game. They were yelling, and like they do in the student section, smacking the sign below to make more noise. The usher below told them they were being too loud, and cannot hit the sign. While not hitting the sign makes sense, other sections were doing the same thing. They took offense to this and said they were going to keep cheering on the team, because that is what you are supposed to do at a football game. The usher did not like this, and got an SIU police officer. He told them they were all kicked out of the game. They refused to leave, so a few more officers came and went up to their seats.
Once the officers got up there they discussed what was going on, and the police told them they did not want to kick them out, and if they stopped hitting the sign, they would be able to stay. They agreed to that, and the cops left them alone. The group continued to yell for the team, and stomp on the bleachers for the rest of the game, and as far as I know, were left alone.
The only issue was why students can hit the sign below them to make noise, but other sections cannot. I personally have no opinion either way, but wanted to clear up what happened, as I was sitting a few feet from it. I asked one of the cops about the difference in rules for each section. He obviously did not know anything about it, since it is more stadium policy.

??? I've sat in the general admission sections before (been a few years), but no one ever said anything to me. Hopefully, I'll be there for Homecoming this year.
Should I sit elsewhere?

Thanks for the recap, I am shocked about he sign, that is why we selected the seats we have for the reserved side....
Maybe they should go to foam signs that don't make good noise makers!
I thought the point of going to a game was to make noise on behalf of your team.
At least they were allowed to stay, but it shouldn't have even got to that point.
