Chalk up one more business closing in Carbondale. This location is on the list of Bed Bath and Beyond’s that are closing.
The company as a whole is on the verge of bankruptcy and most likely going to fail so I wouldn't blame it on a lack of support from the area
Best Buy and Bed are closing stores all over the country.
Two new business are going into the Best Buy location - being built out now. Allegedly a Gopuff store was going in the Family Video (out of business) - hasn't happened yet.
Chalky's Billiards and Harrold's Chicken Shack are a couple of new businesses in town.
Carbondale Cycle has moved north a block across the street from the old train station.
Invigorating the Carbondale music scene, a new, permanent stage will be built at the Washington St. venue downtown - went to a concert there this summer - lots of folk dancing, drinking, wacky weeding!
City received a $2mill grant from the state: "The project will feature a permanent stage that will enable the city to host more concerts and live entertainment. City officials expect that developing the venue will increase activity in Carbondale's new downtown entertainment district and attract visitors from across southern Illinois."
@mr_woogers you certainly seem up to date with local projects. Have they started work on the new casino at Walkers Bluff? I believe that will be a good thing for the southern Illinois region.
@tj-mcflys They've been working on it for a while. Don't think the casino is open quite yet. It will be a money maker I'm sure. I used to go to the Alton Belle occasionally - that was really fun when it went out on the river every hour.

I noticed Chalky's Billiards by the University Inn on W. Rt. 13 is now Club 13 - a nightclub open Thurs - Sat night. Guess the billiards didn't go over - same owner. Supposed to have good food.
@mr_woogers Thank you kindly for sharing those informative links. Exciting news for the local economy.
I am especially interested in the redevelopment of Downtown Carbondale. The streetscape project has improved aesthetics tremendously. However, I believe that the new music stage, and new transportation center will transform that general area into a updated and vibrant venue. IMO this can certainly help with student recruitment, with parents liking as well.
If you have any links/info. to share on those projects please do so. Much gratitude.

The one in Gurnee Mills closed a couple of months ago. They're shuddering all of their brick and mortar stores and will attempt to maintain an online presence. Shopping Malls in general are going the way of the dinosaur.
@1dawg Turn them into self contained senior living communities.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
Wiki: "On April 23, 2023, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and announced that it would be winding down its operations after several failed attempts to turn around the company.[8][9] All remaining Bed Bath & Beyond stores, as well as all locations of subsidiary Buy Buy Baby, are currently holding liquidation sales, and will close by June 30, 2023."
