When I originally read this in March, I thought it was a piece of fluff. I reread this a few minutes ago and now I am wondering. Has anyone seen Sekou Dembele play? Is he an impact player?
My guess is fluff but I really really hope I am wrong
I watched Sekou play in the exhibition game last season. He was a physical specimen, very active and appeared to be ready for Valley play in that respect. Granted, a small sample size, but I believe he will get regular playing time and contribute to some degree. I have been told by others, Sekou gave Pippen all he wanted in practice.

Very nice. Thank you
You know, we all knew the roster situation was ugly... But its put into perspective when Mullins signs 4 nice players and you are still left sayin, wow, we could use more players... Anyway, will be be hearing something official on Payton? Is he still coming according to SIU? I know we have speculated on here but has SIU said anything officially?
Chris Payton will never play 1 second of basketball at SIU. End of story
I understand, I am asking if anyone has said he was released from his scholarship or hes reopening his recruitment. Just curious.
Long story.
He is selling him self out to schools but has not asked for a release yet. Grades could be an issue also

You could see something as soon as May 28th.
Hmmmmm
Cincinnati sophomore center Eliel Nsoseme has entered his name into the transfer portal

Wouldn’t be shocked if Vogt lands at Cincy with Brannen

Wow, the 5th kid to leave the UC program. Still lots of kids in the portal looking for a team. I’m guessing our next 1 or 2 recruits will come from the portal.

Vogt is following Brannen to UC; saw it on the local Cincy news one night last week - Thursday night IIRC. Not a big surprise there.

Three Rivers is where Pippen came from.
Unless there is another major addition or two to next year's roster (probably doubtful, at this stage), I could see Southern being picked last in the MVC next season. Mullins and his staff have done great work to sign some quality guys this spring, but the six departed seniors and other roster attrition have left an awful lot of holes. Most concerning:
1. There is nobody on the roster who seems like a legit threat to go out and get you 20 points on a given night.
2. Aside from Benson and Dembele, there aren't any natural options at the 4/5 spots. Yes, Southern can play four guards a lot, but it may be as much out of necessity as a desire to play fast.
3. Overall depth is dicey. As of now, assuming Payton does not show, there are only nine scholarship guys who will be eligible to play, and that includes four freshmen. They'll likely still add another guy or two to the mix, as it's hard to envision them leaving three open scholarships, so of the roster shortcomings noted, this one probably is least problematic.
Hopefully they still improve the roster in the coming weeks and I am optimistic Mullins will coach 'em up, especially on defense, but I'm not sure there is another MVC team with as many question marks, especially now that Evansville's roster appears much-improved and Freeman decided to return for Valpo. Still very much looking forward to next season and the continued recruiting headway in the months to come.
