Unless there is another major addition or two to next year's roster (probably doubtful, at this stage), I could see Southern being picked last in the MVC next season. Mullins and his staff have done great work to sign some quality guys this spring, but the six departed seniors and other roster attrition have left an awful lot of holes. Most concerning:
1. There is nobody on the roster who seems like a legit threat to go out and get you 20 points on a given night.
2. Aside from Benson and Dembele, there aren't any natural options at the 4/5 spots. Yes, Southern can play four guards a lot, but it may be as much out of necessity as a desire to play fast.
3. Overall depth is dicey. As of now, assuming Payton does not show, there are only nine scholarship guys who will be eligible to play, and that includes four freshmen. They'll likely still add another guy or two to the mix, as it's hard to envision them leaving three open scholarships, so of the roster shortcomings noted, this one probably is least problematic.
Hopefully they still improve the roster in the coming weeks and I am optimistic Mullins will coach 'em up, especially on defense, but I'm not sure there is another MVC team with as many question marks, especially now that Evansville's roster appears much-improved and Freeman decided to return for Valpo. Still very much looking forward to next season and the continued recruiting headway in the months to come.
I'd be willing to bet that BOTH senior guards score over 20pts in a game multiple times.

Think Domask and Trent Brown have the ability to score 20+ too on a game they're hot. SIU is gonna have guys that can score, the question is how consistent will they be. Probably not very with so many Freshman.
It would be a shame to not redshirt some of these freshmen. May not have any choice but to play all these guys.

As Mullins said in his recent podcast interview, it's still early to say if anyone will redshirt. As you mention, they may not have any choice but to play everyone. I think Brown will be an outstanding shooter when it's all said and done, but my guess is he could use some seasoning on defense.
Patience he will be adding at least two more

Correct, lots of decent players still available that can help the team. BM is looking for the right fit. Trust the process.
Hmmmm. I saw somewhere he was not going to qualify. I wonder where I saw that ? 😬
That's what y'all get for listening to Hefferman. All in, right?
Good luck Jimmy.
Craving a McBride Special!

I'm confused. palm beach state is an ncaa division I school, so what's the reference to "juco", and what does 2020 refer to? will he be eligible in 2019 at palm beach state, or will he be at a juco? who knew basketball could be so complicated!
Palm beach state is not a D-1 basketball program NJCAA
