Not surprised by Darius and Jimmy's departure. It was a long shot they'd remain, especially after Anthony wasn't retained.
Same concept as a funeral I guess, but I needed the official announcement so I could put it to bed in my mind. Not at all worried the way Mullins and co. have been tearing up the recruiting trails. Next year will look very different.

It will indeed look very differently, but that will very likely be a good thing !
We don't need to sign anymore guards or small forwards. At this point Mullins & Co need to sign low post players. At this time we have two that I know of (Benson and Dembele). The way things are going, if Dembele transfers we have Benson.....that's it. Is there anyone else on the roster SIU can match up against Krutwig…...or any other kid that's 6'8" or better, with an inside presence?
If you can get Antonio Reeves you get Antonio Reeves period.

maybe not, but those bigs wont match up against a guard either.
Reeves and a JUCO big would be about perfect.

Reeves Wimberly and the 6-11 kid from Mercer is the dream
While we're waiting for more good news, does anyone have any insights into the prospects for Avery Taggert? Obviously he's quite an athlete as well as hoopster. Also, as it relates to status, he's at SIU on a football scholarship, so that allows for another hoops scholly, right? And wondering what is BM's take on him, if anyone knows?
Just trying to sort this out and appreciate any help from insiders. Apologies if this has been asked and answered.
Thanks.
I was about to ask about him as well. The schools that recruited him for basketball weren't D1. He won't be able to work with the team much until after football is over. I wouldn't be surprised if he's not even healthy enough for hoops after a full season of football, given the sport's injury rate.
My guess is that the most we'll get of him is a good practice player and someone to steal a few minutes rest for a regular on occasion, especially later in the season after getting to practice more with the team. He's a big, strong guy who can shoot, but probably lacks the other skills necessary to play at this level.

Do we even know if Mullins has welcomed Taggert as a walk on, or if Taggert still wants to play both sports ?

Well, I guess the short answer to my question is...yes
If you can get Antonio Reeves you get Antonio Reeves period.
It feels like Reeves is waiting to see how things shake out with Illinois.

Illinois is out on Reeves. Has been for a while.
When I originally read this in March, I thought it was a piece of fluff. I reread this a few minutes ago and now I am wondering. Has anyone seen Sekou Dembele play? Is he an impact player?
