At St.Louis Is the only one I know for sure
St Louis, SIUe, SEMO and Murray State would be some givens, (easy games to get to)
MVC keeping the Mountain west games alive? put one of those down.
MVC schedule is set by the conference, so 4 ISU, 2 Loloya, 2 valpo, ...
Don’t think the MVC-MW Challenge is a thing anymore as of this year
It is not. I am pretty sure the contract with the E is over also
No need to play the e at this point. Doug Elgin should be looking to start a conference challenge with another mid-major conference. The A-10, the Sunbelt, or the league the Wichita state moved to should be on the radar. They may not to go that route with the MVC, but Elgin should be putting out feelers.

Don't expect much help there! Elgin retired 5 years ago - just forgot to tell HR!
The 2019-2020 season is a rebuilding year, and probably does not make a difference. But from that point on playing better teams seems like a good game plan.
Yep, we have to rebuild after that electrifying run to the Arch Madness quarterfinals last year. 😕
Dawgs are in the inaugural Sunshine Slam, an exempt tournament in Kissimmee, Florida. Article also covers other games scheduled.
The tournament is the first week of season and should be an opportunity to get these guys playing together . At this point I see it as a positive step. Mullins is also looking for a power 5 game on the road, make some money and hopefully not embarrass ourselves too bad. I can't wait for the first games in a new era to begin. Go Dawgs
I have to say I’m not a big fan of his tourney. First of all, I’d like us to get a few more games under our belt before we play in an exempt event. Especially with so many new players, it would be nice to build some chemistry before attempting to win an event. And before people say “this is a rebuilding year....don’t worry about winning”, this will be a winnable tournament. With no power 5 teams in the field, it negates one of the biggest advantages of these type of events - the opportunity to play the “big boys” on a neutral court. I hope this is not the usual type of exempt event we pursue but I realize options may have been limited this year as Barry should have arranged this 6-12 months ago.
On a different note, I like the San Francisco game. This is a quality mid major and getting them at home is a positive. I wonder if this is a home and home? Usually, cross country road trips for non conference games are avoided by SIU unless they coincide with an exempt event. So far, I haven’t heard of us scheduled to play a tourney in Vegas, Hawaii, or Alaska in 2020 but I wonder if that’s in the works?

San Fran will be a very tough game! Two years ago, they were one of the few that beat (Sweet 16) Nevada.
Last year they beat a lot of good teams.

I suspect that based on when Bryan was hired and the fact that recruiting was absolutely the number one priority , that there were slim pickens. Also, I see no point in playing power 5 teams this year in an exempt tourney. If we have a buy game fine, but regardless of what we want, I see this year as a year to build on , not gonna win the league or get an at large bid. The main reason to play in exempt tourneys besides playing tougher competition is to just play more games as playing three or four only count as one. San Francisco seems fine and obviously Murray is. Starting in 2020-2021 I will begin to have higher expectations. Until then, Im happy with where we are.
When the program is in the shape it's in (complete rebuild--though we have seen worse in that regard), teams like those in this tourney ARE "big boys"; hell, the top 2/3 of D1 are "big boys."
This seems like a perfect tourney for where we are. They wouldn't learn anything from getting pounded by a P5 team or from beating up on a 300 RPI team, but getting/giving a bloody nose in a tournament of fair-to-middling teams? That seems like useful info to me.
I like it.
(Inflammatory political snark)
I completely agree with you Austin. getting to know their teammates, and learning to play as a team will be a useful experience. any mingling with the big boys should only be done for $ at this point.
Does anyone know how many non conference home games we are slated to have? it kind of seems like it will be a small number. Maybe 6? If I am looking at it right. One looks to be non D1 too. San Francisco, Non D1, SIUE... I know we owe some games on the road like Murray and SLU. Our home non conference schedule is shaping up to be non existent. I know this has happened from time to time.

I just hope the San Fran game is on a weekend. If so that will be the Saluki-Insider gathering game
Oakland and Delaware were announced in the Florida exempt tournament. Sounds like very reasonable opponents and might be exactly the type of competitive games a young team like ours needs to play. If the rest of the field is of this caliber it could be a rather exciting start to our season and new era of Saluki Basketball.

Let’s not sugar coat the crapfest this tourney will be for us. These teams were 17-16 and 16-17 last year playing in lousy conferences. Their end of season RPIs were 198 and 214. We used to mock Barry for playing in events like his and criticized other Valley schools as well for hurting the conference SOS. As I said before, I’m willing to give us a pass to this season as an event should have been locked up 6 months to a year ago. However, this is not the type of exempt event we should ever be satisfied with and it will do little to help us out.
Brings that you have no clue who the other 5 teams are you should probably hold off a bit before complaining
