I am sure plenty of mid majors are having thee same problem with everything that has gone in the last year it has to make things extremely difficult
Salukis open the season on November 9 at Little Rock. Ben Coupet gets to open this season exactly where he finished his last one.
For those wondering, the Tulsa game carries a $58,000 guarantee to SIU according to Heff

Still 3 games short, certain one will be with a D2 school. I believe that SIU is still working on a game at Murray State . Not sure about the last game, not confident that it will be a quality game at this late date. Very disappointed that Tulsa is paying us 58K to come out there with no return game to Carbondale. We have dropped into the low Mid-Major status having to play a former conference foe as a guarantee game.
If I am playing a guarantee game I would rather play a power 5 school for a much larger pay day. Just doesn't make since to me that we are playing Tulsa as a guarantee game. Hell, he who shall not be named beat Tulsa his last season at SIU. Also, SIU tried to schedule Wichita State while Barry was still here and they wanted to pay us a guarantee and he told them to F off. Believe me I was no fan of Barry's but on this instance I agree with Barry.
I know several on here will blast me for this post and tell me how hard scheduling is but it is his job to figure it out he is making more than anyone on the SIU campus (475K). It is his job to turn this basketball program around and he needs to figure out how to schedule better. I do like the direction that Mullins has this program headed in although it is too early in his regime to make a final call. I am afraid once you set a precedence of scheduling guarantee games with non-power 5 schools you are heading down a slippery slope. I don't usually rant on here but this just doesn't sit well with me.

Fair point but any power 5 school is gonna be tough to get. They don’t really like paying mid majors that can beat them
Seems to me like they're setting up a schedule to get wins over quality of opponents. Colorado will be tough but every other game on the schedule is winnable including Tulsa. As I mentioned before, Drake played a really easy non-conference season last year and it turned their program around when nobody expected it.
But if they get off to a slow start, it won't be a good omen for conference season.

Honestly I don't mind the thought of getting paid to go beat them. I wish there was a return game as well, but in the day where our athletic department is facing budget cuts, its not a horrible idea to get a good road game and go win it. And get paid for it.
Isn't this a return game from a few seasons ago when Tulsa played at SIU and the small amount being paid kind of a convenience fee of sorts for the return game not being played due to COVID(I.E. a small penalty for delaying the contract)?

They played Tulsa a few years ago at an MTE in Vegas. I assume we wouldn’t be returning that game?
You are right I was thinking of another team.
Regardless a buy game against Tulsa is strange as they aren't even good.
Murray's schedule came out and Southern ain't on it.
Cold war between the Dawgs and Racers on multiple fronts? 🤔
Looks like SIU is playing 2 division 2 teams this year instead of Murray State and Saint Louis. Terrible. I'm guessing we'll get an official schedule release very soon but apparently the schedule was sent out to donors and season ticket holders.
Schedule is horrible! Only changes from what was listed above is that we play an exhibition against Henderson State on October 26 and home games against Maryville and Missouri Baptist on Dec. 18 & Dec. 28. We will have to do very well in the mvc and win or take 2nd in the paradise jam to even sniff any kind of postseason consideration!
If you wanted to go to a home non-conference game this year, the best team they'll play is Austin Peay who finished as a #215 KenPom team last year. Your other options are Alcorn State (342), Southern Miss (256), SEMO (269), or two Division 2 schools. That's not a good way to build momentum in the community.
