I dont blame the Shockers for trying to move up in the world, but unlike Creighton which made a sort of slam dunk move I really dont feel long term the AAC will actually be an improvement. Realistically at some point it may become a downgrade if the BCS conferences ever come raiding again
i do blame them for trashing the league before and after they left. creighton was respectful. wichita left like the trash they are. marshall abused the league like it was one of his own players.
Do Not forget that leaving the MVC had everything to do with a h o l e Marshall thinking they were too good for the MVC. And then Loyola went to the Final Four and then a Drake team beats them minus their two best players!!!
I think they beat USC!
Beating USC will be tough. Trojans have a lottery pick in Evan Mobley, one of the top freshmen in the country. Also transfer Drew Peterson from Rice, a guy SIU tried making a run at last Summer.
I get that WSU was seemingly disrespectful to the Valley when they left, but I don't care if they win or lose (as long as they're not playing a Valley team). Cincy left, Tulsa left, Creighton left......... it happens. I'm more concerned about the current Valley teams and what they can do for this conference. Even with what looks like some very weak bottom teams next season, the Valley could be in for another very strong year and the trend is looking very good for the future.
I also believe that the importance of SIU returning to be a dominant force in the Valley cannot be understated. I realize that I am bias. SIU still has name recognition and if (when) they can get back to the top of the Valley and to the NCAA tournament (2023?), the Valley will get a big boost IMO.

I wouldn't count out next year as a year SIU can compete for the top 1/3 of the mvc. If we keep our core and stay healthy we need to add two pieces to compete for championships. We need a veteran 6'6" - 6'7" athletic, long swingman in the mold of Murphy or Hemphill for Drake and an experienced, athletic PG to compliment Banks. If we could add those pieces via transfer, and if they are immediately available, I think we can compete for a championship next year.
A post on Shockernet says that the Drake is a "bad" team that would finish bottom of the AAC. 😆
Nevermind the fact that they went toe-to-toe with the Shux in a slopfest (by both teams) minus their PG and their best player hobbling on one leg for 10 minutes. 😆
Oh well, their season being over means they can get back to scrimmaging the Lakers a couple weeks sooner. 🤣
Not sure if everyone is aware of this but Wichita was the regular season champion of the AAC!
Now they're licking their wounds! 😍

While there are a LOT of "if's" there (Muila being healthy, Domask being healthy and regaining all MVC form, further growth of core, and most importantly adding a couple of KEY PIECES), I do agree that if the stars align just right, this team could compete with the top 3 teams in the Valley. I still think that will be a tall task, but Mullins still has a ton of my faith and I won't put anything past him at this time.
I forgot to mention the potential of the incoming recruits as well. : )

I scrolled through the two threads about the game over there, and yeah: there seemed to be very little acknowledgement of Drake's not having their two best players. (Yes, I know Hemphill played, but Hemphill at 50-70 percent is not one of their two best players.) I think there was maybe one post that sort of acknowledged that.
I usually don't like to bash other programs' message boards/fanbases, and I have to say that there used to be several decent guys over at Shockernet, but now it seems to be almost entirely a$$*****.

#3 Arkansas looking out of sorts right now. Colgate up 8 fairly early in the first half.
Man Colgate went up 14 and Arkansas goes on a 17-0 run to go up 3 at the half. Fun game as expected between 2 up-tempo teams.
After falling behind 33-19, Arkansas outscored the toothpaste factory 64-35.

Just read this and literally laughed out loud. Nice one.
Loyola-Georgia Tech about to begin on TBS
Let's go Loyola !!!! GT is super talented but without their best player, they are beatable.
It's way too early to feel like Loyola is out of this, but man they sure do look over matched.
