I'm certainly all about eliminating non-D1 teams on the schedule. It only hurts SIU. There's nothing positive about it other than filling out a shitty schedule.
I don't really get the benefit. I've always said, I'd only schedule a non D-1 game as the very first game of the year. Gives you an easy first game where you can figure out lineups and such and get some guys some confidence. In the middle of the non-con schedule makes no sense. KenPom just ignores non D-1 games.
Agree playing D2 schools isn't great. But if you take a look around its happening everywhere and .....the scheduling part of college basketball is tougher than ever. Would be nice to have a stronger home schedule for sure....that said there is a tremendous benefit to playing K State in a scrimmage and Alabama in an exhibition game. They are two tough opponents who will definitely prepare the team for the upcoming season and it tells the staff where they are terms of progress. Ultimately you have to win the games that are on your schedule. If we do this we will be in good shape. If we don't then it will be problematic . A win against UNLV and a potential win against Minnesota will help tremendously....SLU will be tough as will OSU.
Nest year SLU and OSU will be premier games at home....Though It would be nice to have a better home schedule, given the situation they have done a good job getting teams on the schedule to prepare them for the upcoming season. With contests against K-State, OK St, UNLV, SLU, ALA, and possibly Minnesota its impossible to argue the non con schedule isn't tough enough in terms of preparing them for the league. And lastly, if they would get wins against Vegas, MN, and either OSU or SLU or any three of those four games and then do well in the league that will put them in a pretty good spot for the post season.
Preseason Ken Pom ratings are out. Drake 78, SIU 90. There is a slew of MVC teams in the 100-125 range and Evansville clocking in at a solid 337. Season is getting close!

Top-100 would be nice. It’s been a while. With several weak opponents, it’s probably going to take a win or two against one of those stronger non-conference opponents and no bad slipups to get there, plus a top 2-3 MVC finish.

#330 Little Rock
#30 Oklahoma State

#118 UNLV

Follow Drake’s formula from a couple years back. Win. And win by a lot. And our ratings will be fine. Can’t beat these teams by 10. It needs to be 25+.
I vaguely followed Cal Baptist last year and they were pretty decent. Good to see they don't appear to be terrible this year in case of a loss to UNLV. There's not too big a drop-off there from Minnesota.
Not shocked by the rest though, this schedule is really bad. They have to take advantage against Oklahoma State, UNLV, Saint Louis.
Any SI's hear about the K-State secret scrimmage?
March on triumphantly!
Any SI's hear about the K-State secret scrimmage?
Believe it's this Saturday in KC.
Sounds like TCU beat Alabama handily. “Alabama was without Bediako and Burnett and they’re both nursing injuries.
TCU is a better team than Alabama IMO and a top 25 team. So nothing to be worried about being down 2 starters, but basketball news nonetheless.”

I had one child graduate from 'Bama. Anyone planning to attend with questions about logistics, et al pls feel free to ping me.
50/50 chance I will be able to make the scrimmage, myself.

If you can figure out how to get tickets, other than driving five hours and hoping to get tickets, please let me know. I have searched and searched the internet, called Alabama Athletics, and even called Foster Auditorium where game is to be played. At least I called the number listed for the auditorium, wound up talking to the gift shop of a hospital in Tennessee!
