First Heard in St Louis that the SIU vs Saint Louis game is being played at Chafitez. Apparently it has become a 2-1 Hearing SLU will play in Carbondale next year.
Stu Durando is now reporting this on his twitter page.
Last year we played a pay game at Tulsa and now St Louis isn’t returning a contracted game to Carbondale. Very disappointing.
Even more irritating considering SLU was supposed to have come to Carbondale last year, too. I think some of the posters’ Murray disdain should be reserved for the Billikens.
The selfish part of me likes it now that I’ll be able to go to this game…but not ideal that we lose a home game. To be fair to SLU, WE were the ones to cancel the game last year b/c of the conference game at Evansville and this year should have been a home game for them.
I don’t like taking a two for one with what we hope to be a peer conference. If they used this to extend the contract for two and two I could get behind that.

I'm aware of the conference game quirk last year but if both schools wanted the game to happen last year I'm thinking they could have found an alternate date. To have SLU weasel out of coming to Carbondale again this year is, to me, pretty galling.
The good thing about Murray in the MVC is they're on the conference schedule every year. The bad news is they're off the non-conference schedule. And SLU is proving quite slippery to get to come to Carbondale these days.
We all know how meaningful homecourt is in college basketball. If teams like SEMO and Little Rock become the new normal for "marquee" non-conference home games for SIU (with the home slate rounded out by MEAC/SWAC and DII-type opponents), that is rather icky and, frankly, insulting to the program and its fans.
Road games are weighted more, anyway!
Yeah, because you usually lose them.
Not to mention the lost revenue/fan engagement from what would have been one of the bigger crowds of the year.
Looks like another crappy home non-conference schedule. Mullins really needs to improve his scheduling. Hopefully he pulls a rabbit out of his hat on the last couple of games to be scheduled. Good thing the MVC is going to a 20 game schedule. Which will in fact improve our home schedule.
Are you implying that it is the fault of Bryan Mullins that SLU is not coming to Carbondale?

No, but he's in charge of scheduling (or at least his staff is) and it was horrific last year, especially the home games.
Right now the home games lined up are Alcorn State and Little Rock this year, both sub-260 KenPom teams last year. Northern Iowa is out there getting good games in non-conference and they're projected to be worse than SIU this year.
I don't know whose fault it is for this but Saint Louis was going to be the marquee home game this year for non-conference and it's already tough enough to get decent schools to Carbondale so this seems like a huge blow. Hopefully SIU is at least getting a decent paycheck out of this.

I agree with Salukiworld on this Hopefully this is going to be Mullin's best team. He has added some nice pieces to a veteran team . I don't expect to see power 6 teams at the Arena but I also don't want to see low level teams. I really want to see how we stack up against good quality teams. I know the schedule isn't finished so hopefully he will find at least one quality home non-conference game.
Hearing that the game at SEMO will be on December 22.

If the contract was converted to a 2:1 for SLU, as indicated earlier in the thread, I doubt there's any paycheck involved. It's not really a buy game at that point. Though, at this rate, who knows if SLU ever steps foot again in Jackson County ... they seem to be in Lucy/Charlie Brown pull the football mode.
It's a troubling trend line of programs that used to be SIU's peers (or below SIU's level) like Loyola and SLU that seemingly are leaving SIU behind when it comes to recruiting, scheduling clout, etc.
Salukis badly need a stretch of major success to try and stem the tide as much as possible.
This is a pretty rough schedule. Lord, just grab some mediocre Horizon teams. We can’t do that?! We can’t be wasting games on DII anymore

Looks like the road game 😑 at Saint Louis will be Dec. 3.

A Saturday Night game against a potential top 25 team in Carbondale would have been electric. Would have made the trip for that. Now probably going to hold off on a potential trip to a home game until at least conference season because I highly doubt there's anything interesting coming for home games at least in non-con.

Hoping we can get a bunch of fans to this road game. If we don't have 500 or more SIU fans at this game I will be disappointed. My immediate group of 8 or so SIU supporter friends in the greater STL area should be going to the game.

It's a 5 hour drive for me and the wife but right now, unless gas prices jump back up again, we plan on being there. We'll try to bring a couple Saint Louis family members with us as well.
Look for some potentially very positive news on the non-conference schedule front. Two more games to fill. Keep the spirit!
GO DAWGS!
