To be fair it’s still (slightly) early for the finalization of non-conference schedules. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was announced this week and also wouldn’t be surprised if it was announced first week of September. I’m hoping that the delay is a good thing and that we’re working to finalize a contract with a big opponent. After seeing Illinois State’ non-conference schedule, I’m hoping it can’t get any worse than that.
Considering Illinois State has a new coach and is rebuilding and Southern is one of the more veteran teams in the league, you’d hope SIU’s schedule would be much better.
@siudawgs exactly. Scheduling is never easy especially at our level but for this program to move forward it has to get better. Hopefully it is better this year we shall see.

Yeah, typically the schedule doesn't come out till the end of August/early September. Not saying it will be great, just that's historically when SIU announces it. But most everyone else has released their schedules by then, so we already know. Not sure why it's done this way SMH.
March on triumphantly!
Hi Folks,
Seems the non-conference schedule will be completed early to mid September. Patience is a virtue. Some will certainly like it, some will dislike, and some will stay neutral. Our team is super solid, and our non-conference will be as well. Trust the process.
Stay positive, stay healthy my friends.
GO DAWGS!

WOW as always insightful information. Thank You
I'm good as long as there are no non-D1 games.

I will be pleasantly surprised if there isn't a D2 game, SIU has had a D2 game on their regular schedule 4 out of the last 5 years and all three of Mullin's seasons.
There is no excuse to having them. Ever. Especially now when there are fewer OOC games due to the expanded conference schedule. Having a non-D1 team on there would be almost unforgivable.

Agree!

While I agree. If nobody except a D-2 team will come to the Dale for a home game what are they supposed to do ?

There's no way they can't get a good MAC team on a home and home or a even decent Horizon teams. Hell, there's two new D1 schools within a few hours in Southern Indiana and Lindenwood, both would be disappointing scheduling additions but better than a D2 game.

I have to agree with Saluki World on this. I certainly haven’t given up on Mullins getting a couple of more D1 home games so I am not going to be critical yet I will wait and see how it pans out .

It would be better to just not schedule at all.
I personally think, outside of playing Chaminade in Hawaii, playing a D2 or lower school should automatically make you ineligible for the NCAA tournament.
And I hate "we need home games" excuse. Illinois State played 2 non-D1 OOC games last year. They also had 6 other home games on their schedule. They played exactly 2 OOC road games.
The MVC is fairly unique among this in regards to upper mid majors. Non-D1 games are almost non existent in conferences like the A10 or Mountain West.
I don’t know if there’s much difference between playing a D2 and another MEAC or OVC opponent. It’s actually less harmful from a metrics standpoint. That said, with two fewer noncon games to schedule now, I don’t see why they’d need to do that.
My bigger issue in recent years has been the shortage or complete absence of a marquee noncon home game, with SLU apparently unwilling to come to Carbondale (still haven’t seen an explanation on that one). The coaches/administration have to find a way to pull in an occasional home game against an A-10/MWC/AAC type opponent as several other MVC programs continue to be able to do.
