I understand that some people in the  know say BM is not on the hot seat.  I just don’t see how. This is going to be an exciting season because we have some new players to see and some young ones show out. But unless Bryan pulls a 27-5 rabbit out of a hat or a Valley title, I think he’s gone.

I doubt this AD wants to be the guy to head up a contract extension to a coach who has shown he can’t develop players and clearly is not good at getting his teams to score, among other things.

I think your bar is way too high. SIU just invested in a high priced assistant coach/recruiter and I think they will give that a year or two to see where it leads. That said, a poor conference finish and I think he will be on the hot seat. A Joe Gottfried finish and he will be gone, but that is not going to happen - too many bad teams at the bottom.

IMHO and quickly summarizing, injuries, inexperience and ineligibility are the major issues. The culture has been created and I'm okay with the talent level (if developed). Certainly, plenty of room on this team's shoulders to carry chips. Hoping it doesn't take too much time to gel as an effective offense. Not too worried about D other than injuries.

It's a long season, so I will remain cautiously optimistic with fingers, toes and every other appendage on my body, crossed.

March on triumphantly!

This is a good summary. A lot of folks with their panties in a bunch before we have played a meaningful game. The scrimmage we played was without arguably our best player and 2 starters. People are making some huge assumptions in their dire forecasts. Let's at least wait until after the Queens game to make any kind of educated analysis. Hornecker and Sharp will be out for a while. Neither was going to be a huge part of the team this year. If D'Amico and X can get back close to 100% I think we will be better than folks on here are predicting. The upside for Miller, Ferguson, Ebube, and Davis is significant. If they can develop this year to go along with D'Amico, X, McGee and Rupert who have already shown they can play at this level and hopefully are improving also hen I think we can make some noise. I did not mention Hensley who I don't have confidence will be eligible. If he is I think he can also be a nice piece.

Yes, next year he would go into a contract year which rarely goes well for recruiting.  He'd probably need to be extended this offseason or gone.

Most certainly agree with you. Would prefer to make an educated analysis after the first three or four games. To base conclusions on a scrimmage, or worse yet, internet fodder is just plain silly. This team has some talent, and will surprise people. Unless Saluki fans start donating more to the NIL Basketball fund, we will not be getting the 4 and 5 star recruits. I myself have season tickets for men, and therefore donate to SASF. I also have given $$$ to both NIL Basketball AND Football. Not a lot, but some is better than nothing. Please help if you can. SIU is not a P5 institution, and never will be. Athletics needs the assistance!

I would anticipate not having Hesnley this year.  The NCAA is being way more strict on 2nd time transfers even if they have good cases:

https://www.si.com/college/2023/10/27/jaylon-tysons-texas-tech-case-ncaa-crackdown-on-second-time-transfers?utm_source=reddit.com

That's Jaylon Tyson who people were interested in when Jerrance came over and ended up at Cal.

I think in the long-run this is a good thing for College Basketball as opposed to having players freely transferring every year but it's shitty for players like Tyson now.  Wish they started the crackdown on 2024 Freshmen and grandfathered in all the athletes that have been playing.

Respectfully, and yet ironic, aren't you also providing analysis before the Queens game?  Just because it's a positive take doesn't make it any less preliminary, even if hindsight proves it accurate.  In that, I would say that those with concerns have more information to go on.  It's all just opinions at this point.  I promise you this, I absolutely, positively hope beyond hope that you are correct and this team does well and finishes near the top of the valley.  If I were a betting man (and I am) I would simply bet against that.  As we all know, however, bets often don't win.  LOL

Possibly a Kansas homecoming for Hensley forthcoming this weekend?

Will that make Hensley eligible for ND State and beyond?

Actually, there's a road game at Wichita before that, right?
