You can tell the people who are bashing Coupet are the ones who are not in tune with the direction modern college basketball is going. In no simulation would bashing a 41% 3 point shooter make sense especially since 33% from 3 equals 50% from 2.
We need to be more in tune with modern college basketball, not less.
I agree Coupet would have been a better third scoring option on this year’s team than anyone they had. Not bashing him. But … last season, SIU had Domask, Jones, Coupet, etc., and they were a .500 Valley team. So, clearly he was not a difference-maker, right? The results were the results.
Unquestionably if we had Coupet this year, with his shooting and rebounding, we would have been playing for the MVC Championship and won a few more games.
Last year we had NO big guy presence - this year we did - big difference. Plus D'Amico and Banks were much improved.

Banks was not much-improved; his numbers went backwards in scoring, assists and rebounds and he was up and down all year. D’Amico, at times, looked much-improved but he has a long ways to go offensively. Agree that Rupert and a somewhat improved Muila improved the inside play from a very low bar the year before.
I see where you’re coming from but it’s not as clear-cut as you portray.
I believe you have to pay $30K entry fee to play in the CBI. 16 teams - first two rounds on Flo Sports, last two on ESPN2: https://www.gazellegroup.com/main/cbi/
Not sure if The Basketball Classic will be held this year (successor to the College Insider Tournament - CIT).

FLO Sports? Is that what I signed up and paid for one weekend the past few years to watch the Salukis play in a tournament?Didn’t realize the crappy tournaments weren’t even televised basically. Unless fans want to pay extra.
Supporter of the Fab 4: Scottie Ebube, Foster Wonders, AJ Ferguson & Cade Hornecker.
They’re the ones that can get us where we haven’t been in 15 years.
We won't really know what we've got for next year until the transfer portal situation goes down. I really like having Ebube & Hornecker at the 5 and Rupert & D'Amico at the 4. That's a solid front line. Johnson & Banks at the 1 is fine. Kennard Davis will help immediately at the 3. Foster Wonders at the 2. If Domask and/or Jones come back....great. If not, we need to nab a high-scoring Wing (or two) from the portal.
We need length and athleticism. Kennard Davis is a start. It would be nice to keep Ferguson at 6'6" and athletic, and develop him, but we need long, athletic 6'4"-6'8" wings in the worst way. We got killed by bigger, more athletic wings on other teams. We need a couple Donovan Clays!

My point was that he was a 24 year old in his 6th year of college basketball who averaged 10 ppg in conference play and that that is not particularly impressive.
Maybe, but “impressive” is a subjective measure and efficiency in modern college basketball can very much be quantified numerically. Drake has a bunch of 24-25 year olds and they are a team that could be dangerous in the NCAA. Yes, there are some very specific circumstances that led to this like losing a Tournament to the pandemic. But we still have to compete against 25 year olds regardless.
We should take the CBI bid now. Get a revenge game against USI. 🤣🤣
OK, who can tell me what Kennard Davis did this year at Vashon? All I can find are pre-season raves and his signing with the Salukis. The Post-Dispatch doesn't appear to do a good job of covering high school basketball and I don't subscribe to MaxPreps.
@Frog I can't find a lot of box score stats for Vashon but Davis is the 'man" on that well balanced team. Vashon started out 7-7 against one of the toughest national schedule. They have reeled off 15 wins in a row since then and are in the hunt for another state championship. Vashon has won 16 Missouri state championships!
Thanks much. My buddy has told me Vashon is the Simeon high school of St. Louis and I knew they were playing an ass-kicking schedule. I don't get Missouri high school games on TV here in Springfield but I'll be anxious to hear how the kid does.
Vashon beat Simeon earlier in the season. I was at the game. It was in a tournament in O'Fallon IL. Davis dominated and was the mvp. He is the real deal.
I've seen Davis play twice this year, that Simeon game their first-round playoff game last week.
He's really good. He plays really high-level defense. He can drive and finish really well and his 3-point shooting is decent as well. Really polished and well-rounded.
According to Bucky Dent, SIU not going to cbi.
