interesting that Sykes committed without ever visiting campus.  I’d guess SIU has a really good shot at Mason with the Sykes connection

Even though Mason averaged 2.8 assists a game I don't think he was their main point guard. Most sites have him listed as a shooting guard. I think he was a combo guard for Texas State playing both the point and the 2. Looks like Kaden Gumbs was their starting point guard. I wonder if we plan on making him a full time PG if he commits. I like his size at 6'4", just a little worried by the fact that he in not a pure PG.

Oh man, I hope there’s something to Mason being up here with Sykes. He put up 19, 18, 25, and 4 in the Sun Belt tournament and would have 2 years of eligibility.

KenPom had him listed as a SG/SF his Freshman year but a PG last year.

In the last 5 games, he played 81% of the point guard minutes there.  Skyes played 27% of the SF minutes and 49% of the PF minutes.

Yeah, I foresee Sykes starting and playing heavy minutes at the 4 with Dibba/Davis/Mayo/Steffe/Bey in the mix at the 2 and 3 spots. That’s why I’m new to the play Hensley at the 5 bandwagon unless he’s just going to back up Sykes at the 4.

I really like the idea of an athletic 6'4" PG that can score! He and Sykes were basically the 2 best players on the #206 NET team in the country. That would be similar to us getting Evansville or Illinois States 2 best players from last year. When added to the other pieces we have gotten commitments from that sounds pretty good to me!

I think Nagy & company have done a fantastic job in recruiting.  Yes, we still need a PG and I think we'll get one this weekend.  I'm also less concerned than others about the 5-spot.  Moreno seems solid.  As ReSaluki pointed out, he was the #48 rated Juco player in the country.  That ranks him as the 5th best true Juco Center, just ahead of the one Bradley signed.

And Jaheem Webber has been called "the most dominant big man in the state" by at least one recruiting service.  He is going to be a stud.

Love Jaheem’s future. I will say he has almost nothing outside of 3 feet right now and the size of the Valley will be very difficult for him at first. Wouldn’t expect a lot immediately.

This board seems to be experiencing a premature exultation.

You've spent the last however many seasons harping on us for being too negative but now when people are positive...

He's missing his BM! LOL

The bigs will just play more and grow up in a hurry, and I'm OK with that. In fact, that's the best way. Playing D'Amico at the 5 and sitting the bigs on the bench and just doing drills in practice, which was preferred by the previous regime, isn't nearly as effective.

By late season, this team could be pretty darn good, assuming these recruits have the talent we think they do.

Still need that good point guard.

For those scoffing at the optimism, I haven't seen anyone say this team WILL finish in the top 4.  I know I have said that *IF* the team signs an experienced point guard, they have a CHANCE to be in the top 4 in the valley, but that was with the knowledge that the rest of the league is in a state of flux, sans Bradley.  The reality is it's premature to guess at lineups, starters, standings in the Valley, etc until the full team is assembled, but this is a fan forum and I'm pretty sure it's common to throw opinions out there, isn't it?  😊

Well said INSaluki; I think a top 4 finish is possible based on the current building of the roster by Nagy & Company.  A lot of good athletic players that seem to fit the style of play he will coach-up.   We'll see in October how our final roster has been built out & the rest of the valley's teams too before we make predictions to be taken seriously.

Go Dawgs!

@jabman62 he is going to struggle so much in the mountain west. The bugs are way more athletic and it’s at elevation. I’d be shocked if he got more than a few min and transferred out to another league
