Been slow here but I think we might have someone coming in.
So ill 24 broke the news last night on MVCFANS that PG news was coming. No clue who the commitment is.
Elija Elliot, just announced.

Averaged 16.6 PPG at UTRGV last year
According to the UTRGV page, Elliott led the entire WAC in field goal attempts, so a volume shooter, and his percentages were not great. That said, he clearly can put the ball in the basket. The key will be how he makes the transition from go-to guy on a bad team to more of a team-oriented role on a team with more talent around him and expectations to win.
But, I think it's safe to say just like with Abilene Christian (Dibba for Hornecker), SIU also decisively won the trade with Trey Miller's new program.
The way I see it, with one open scholarship still that they might or might not use. A pretty talented group:
Starters
Elliott
Dibba
Davis
Sykes
Hensley
Bench rotation
Mayo
Steffe
Moreno
Sharp
Bey
Will have to really impress to avoid redshirt or garbage time only

From day 1, Nagy said he was going to recruit guys that can score.
Seems like more of a combo guard than a true point, which is the direction I figured they'd go in (and which might be a better fit with Nagy's offense). In any case, welcome, Mr. Elliott!
Super excited for this team! Really wish we had another quality big! Already feel this is a better team than last year on paper.
Checking in with the BartTovik rankings, when you add Elliott to the roster, it puts SIU at 133 in the country and 4th in the MVC. It also has SIU projected as tied for 88th in the country in defense. Drew Steffe was added recently so the rankings should be more accurate than they were.
Looks like he's a combo guard who played both the point and the 2. CJ Booker played a lot of PG for them also. However, Elliott was more of a scorer and had more assists. He'll need to cut down on his TO's as his assist to TO ratio was barely above 1. He did lead them in steals with 48 which is promising. I think his assists could go up with the better talent he will have around him next year. Like was said before a pretty darn good get this late in the portal game. We desperately needed a quality PG and obviously he is going to probably be exclusively a PG for us.
