I wouldn't just take those rankings with a grain of salt, I'd take them with the whole shaker! I think on paper we are better than 133 in the country and even better than 4th in the MVC, but they don't play the games on paper. This will be an exciting and athletic team! I'd put this roster up against any in the MVC, but again that's just on paper. Only possible weakness may be at center.Checking in with the BartTovik rankings, when you add Elliott to the roster, it puts SIU at 133 in the country and 4th in the MVC. It also has SIU projected as tied for 88th in the country in defense. Drew Steffe was added recently so the rankings should be more accurate than they were.
Doubt Webber will red shirt and Steffe will see tons of time as he is their best pure shooter, by far.
I think all the numbers (both good and bad) should be taken with a grain of salt. I’m sure percentages were down b/c he had to take a lot of shots on a bad team (also why his scoring average was so high). I think his overall numbers will improve with better players around him, but I also expect his scoring will go down (which is okay). Solid get.
I’m hoping for a stretch 4/5 with the last scholarship…or if you can’t find value take a flyer on someone with one year of eligibility. Don’t lock it up long term with someone you don’t feel good about. Ready for the summer sessions to get going! Let’s see these guys in maroon already!

Yeah I agree, just a fun tool to use. A good coach is going to outperform preseason rankings and a bad coach might take that talent and underperform. I think coaching is gonna make a big difference in the MVC this year with the amount of turnover with basically every team.
Best-case but unlikely scenario for the last ride would be an upgrade as your starting 5 unless they feel really good about what they have there.
Also wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring in another 3-point shooter as a bench option. If Steffe gets hurt or whatever, they don’t have much perimeter shooting.
I’m also OK with not filling it if they’re tapped on NIL resources or can’t find what they’re looking for. The rotation already looks plenty deep (assuming good health).

Had a good feeling there would be more positive news either today or tomorrow. Looks like another solid pickup. Mr. Elliott reminds me of the former NIU Husky Billy "The Kid" Harris. His motto was "shoot while you're hot, and shoot to get hot!" He can certainly put the ball in the basket. Hopefully there is enough playing time to go around to keep everyone content.
Renew those season tickets everyone!
GO DAWGS!!!

Rivals has him ranked #157 out of over 2k portal transfers, On3 has him ranked #516. Pretty decent in both, but Rivals really has him up there.
Also, I think he is only a junior eligibility wise. He played a little in his 1st college season 21/22 and didn't play at all in 22/23. Not sure why he didn't play in 22/23.
Let’s hope the kid actually sticks around. He’s committed/decommitted to two other teams so far this year. 😳
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
This is a darn quality signing. On paper, Elliot is as near-perfect a find/fit for this roster as you could hope for considering Nagy's up tempo style that requires scorers and athletes aplenty to run optimally. I had a feeling the staff was gunning for something good. They got it and then some.
Absolutely would not be surprised at this point to see the last ride go to a talented 5 exceeding anything we could realistically expect or hope for. Pull another rabbit outta that ol' hat, coach. I promise, we won't mind.
Strap in, next year should be fun!

He played his 2022-2023 season at Blinn College (JUCO). He averaged 16.7ppg while shooting 34% from 3 and had a 2:1 assist/TO ratio. He was also named Third Team All American.
QuatrosSaluki I hope all is well and positive your way!
