A SALUKI LOVE POEM (with some help from CHatGPT)
In the Transfer Portal's treacherous abyss,
Where loyalty fades with a venomous hiss,
Cade Horndecker, Troy, Kennard Davis, and more,
Are lost in its depths, their dreams left ashore.
Scottie Ebube, once hailed with acclaim,
Now adrift in the portal's dark murky game.
Hensley and A. J., swept out by its tide,
Their paths run uncertain, their hopes here denied.
Coach Brian Mullins, with fortunes once high,
Now gone where Saluki dreams go off to die
His name etched in honor in sweet days of yore,
Lies shattered and broken with ambitions now sore.
For in this realm of fleeting fame,
Players vanish like smoke in the puff of a flame.
Where loyalty's currency holds no one sway,
Name, image and likeness, come into play.
Oh, Transfer Portal, thou art a shadowy pit,
Where thoughts of fame, game-time and money doth sit.
With every ounce we can muster we say in our prayers,
Curse every team who claims just one of our players.
Lemme just rattle off a few other schools who currently have at least 4 confirmed portal transfers at the moment:
Cal Poly - 5 in the portal
Canisius - 6
Charleston Southern - 4
George Mason - 5
Hampton - 4
Holy Cross - 6
Houston Christian - 8
IUPUI - 9
Idaho State - 5
Incarnate Word - 6
Iona - 5
Lafayette - 4
Loyola (MD) - 4
Marshall - 4
Mercer - 7
Miami - 4
Missouri State - 4
North Dakota State - 4
Northern Iowa - 4
Northwestern State - 8
Omaha - 5
Oral Roberts - 5
Pacific - 4
Pepperdine - 7
Queens - 5
Rhode Island - 5
SE Louisiana - 4
St. Francis (PA) - 4
Stonehill - 4
UIC - 5
UTSA - 5
VMI - 7 (an 8th transfer committed to Jacksonville State)
Vanderbilt - 4
Western Carolina - 7
So nearly ten percent of all D-1 schools are seeing at least four of their players entering the transfer portal already, and that number will likely grow in the next couple of days.
Have “we” not been paying attention? NIL, the QUAD system have one and only one purpose; to make the big bigger, thereby enriching the national media and the “big” conferences. Just move to the back to the back of the bus quietly please. The transfer portal's turned into a runaway train that the NCAA seems powerless to stop, as we've got players all over the place jumping ship, looking to latch onto their second, third, or even fourth different teams, chasing NIL deals... and there's also the new problem of teams intentionally refusing to play in the NIT now because they'd rather spend their time grabbing whatever they can out of the open portal today.
This has turned into one giant mess across the entire NCAA landscape. I'd love to see the rule reinstated that if you transfer to another school, you have to sit out a year first. You'd see the number of portal entrants drop precipitously, but we all know this rule's never coming back.

Quite eloquent, but let’s give the Devil his due here. He currently resides in an ivory tower “somewhere in Southern Illinois”.A SALUKI LOVE POEM (with some help from CHatGPT)

Oh, Transfer Portal, black hole of damnation
Where NIL money is robbed by inflation
We're truly pissed off but still saying our prayers
That the new SIU coach will recruit better players!
Would love to see some teeth put into the portal. What if the team signing a portal player is required at least offer a non-conference game in a specific time period at the former portal team’s home court? Transfer in conference would be a moot point. Would really help with scheduling and make some of the power 5 take pause.
we would see a home game with the Illini & Boilermakers if this were the case!
We officially chose a low-major player over an MVC first-teamer. oof.
And by "oof" I mean "OOF!"

This is funny (only to me, probably) because I've had in my head that Cade was going to end up at Abilene Christian for almost two years now. Not that much of a stretch since he is a Texas boy and a very religious fella.
