Texas and Iowa State are pretty good programs, in fact Texas has more money than pretty much every program in the country.https://twitter.com/theportalreport/status/1906483859480531000
Actually very surprised better teams haven’t offered yet.

Considering he's one of the best players in the country that's available in the transfer portal, I'm just surprised he's not being overwhelmed with large schools. I'm sure it'll pick up.
Ali Dibba is in the portal:
That sucks. was looking forward to seeing him play here another year.Ali Dibba is in the portal:
Looking at a bottom 3 finish next year. Not whelmed by anyone we're after in the portal and you've lost your 3 best players (really 4 if Elliott isn't back).

1. Projecting a bottom 3 finish in March, in this volatile recruiting landscape, is not your most intelligent post. As has been posted before, we're not always privy to who all the staff is after. Yes, there is work to be done.
2. Ali Dibba is a helluva scorer. He's also prone to lapses in effort and concentration, especially on defense. I would have liked him back but am not heartbroken about a large % of Southern's NIL budget freed up for other guys. I don't think scoring will be Southern's biggest challenge under Nagy.
3. This is why when it was posted a couple weeks ago that Dibba is expected back, I was very much in wait-and-see mode. Things change fast when you're dealing with college kids and big bucks, so none of us should be surprised.

Losing your 3-4 best players from an already under .500 team is a death sentence. The absolute best case scenario is being in the same position next year. Maybe Steffe and Luke Walsh have good seasons as 1st and 2nd year players and they hit the portal next year and you're restarting again.
The likely scenario is this team is going to be even worse next year.
Ah, eff. The Dibba news is the one I was hoping not to see.
I’m a little surprised. I guess I figured he hadn’t shown enough to command a big enough payday to leave.
It sucks but this is the new normal for CBB , at all levels. Seems like the most viable option for mid majors is to poach the best division II players possible. It seemed to work for Drake last season.

Of those 3-4 best players:
Davis, yes, a big loss. Dibba, while exciting, is not what I would call a winning player in terms of his overall game. He has not been part of a good team in any of his four years. Hensley was up and down and probably hurt more than he helped in the season's stretch run. Elliott, if you're counting him, didn't make it to December, so hard to factor him in.
If Tim Leonard is to be believed, SIU is heavily prioritizing men's basketball success. That needs to show up this spring. I get the concern/frustration, but let's see how things look in late May.

If Elliott isn't back next year, Drew Steffe is the leading returning scorer (6.8 PPG). They'll have lost 57.9 PPG of scoring (not even including Sharp/Massey) and only return 22.9 PPG of scoring. There's just nothing you can do in the portal to replace that short of a miracle.
@salukiworld yeah but your a very unreliable narrator considering you actively root for hurting the program. Dropping to d2 or the ovc. Just because you want to see wins
