One wrinkle with the composition of the portal additions is it might be a little tougher to find minutes for Walsh this year. I'm assuming House and Stafford both will play heavy minutes, and then if you also have Walsh in there (subbing in for Steffe, for example), that's three really small guards, which could be a problem defensively. I know Southern played Mullins, Tatum and Young at the same time and won a few ballgames, but ... those guys were barely human. 😀
I'm as excited about Walsh as the next guy and think they'll find a way to work him in (for example, maybe Walsh plays the 2 when either House or Stafford sits), but something to think about, especially considering they also need to find minutes for Mayo at the 2 or 3.
Otherwise, my main question continues to be who is going to guard big wings/athletic forwards other than Sykes, who would need to improve quite a bit to be a 30-minute a game type dude. Whether it's Prince Aligbe or someone else at the 3 or 4 spots, hoping for a helpful piece to help solidify this roster.
Steffe will play some 1 as well. Is Haines ready for minutes before Walsh? If not, than expect Steffe at the 1 more and Walsh plays.
Sykes reminds me of Owen, come in to give some hard nosed energy minutes twice a half.

Nagy has repeatedly lamented not having a true point guard hurt the team last year. I would be very surprised if they had Steffe at the point much, outside of some spot minutes…or if we have injuries

What makes me cautiously excited about Walsh is if he's good enough, he'll play. Doesn't matter what the rest of the roster looks like in that regard. That's a chess piece I'll trust an experienced coach like Nagy to maneuver correctly.
Also, with the way the roster has come together, it feels to me as if they're expecting Sykes to make a big leap forward. He'll be valuable guarding big wings in the Valley. Maybe the coaching staff feels they have enough to effectively cover those assignments between Sykes, Steffe and Mayo? I can live with that if Sykes is up to the task.
--Insert something witty here--
Given the current roster construction, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was a bit concerned about the 3 spot. Steffe seems the logical starter there with Sykes as the backup. A very undersized Mayo maybe for some time there as well. That position feels like the PG position last year unless they bring in another guy capable of playing there (i.e. very thin and if we have an injury we are going to struggle to fill that hole).
If Prince Aligbe falls through, this late portal entry from IU Indy seems like a potentially solid Plan B as a potential starter or key reserve at the 4. Looks like he's an Ohio kid so maybe Nagy/Gibbs have a feel for him.
Edit: Looks like the tweet isn't loading right, but here's what it says:
IU Indy junior Sean Craig has entered the transfer portal. The 6’7” junior forward started all 32 games, averaging 12.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. Craig shot 37.6% from 3, knocking down 56 3-pointers this season.
I was extremely high on Sykes coming here last year, so I'm looking for a big jump.. I don't feel all that concerned. I definitely like our makeup this year so far compared to last.
@salukiworld Nice. Even on the roster...already. 🤣
March on triumphantly!
@maroonloon Great news!

As stated a while back, Pikaar has been a done deal for a while. For all the people who were upset with the announcement's timing, please note that it all centered around paperwork with an Agent/attorney and filing status. This young man isn't a US citizen. There are compensation limits for students on a visa to attend college. Imagine how that works when trying to do a NIL deal.
We are still talking with Prince, whom I didn't name in my previous post, and a new guard who can score.
