Not a snow balls chance with those other suitors! 😅

I can certainly understand where folks feel we have no chance at landing a top player. Perhaps we don't, considering the schools on his list.

However, I like the idea of contacting a player of this caliber. You never know what might transpire in this portal/recruitment process. Demonstrates to me that we are serious about moving this program forward. From what I hear and see, there are numerous good players available. SOOOOO..........LET'S HIT IT & GET IT!!!!!!!

Oh I'm not faulting us for trying!  And you're right, I guess you never know! So shoot that shot coach! My brain was just being rational with that list of suitors after him.

I guess you miss 100% of the shots you don't take 😅

I think if you don’t go to 15 you do not look committed to your program.  Two scholarships are not that expensive in the scheme of things.  Why would you not have two more practice players and teach two more kids your system?

I think the most effective way this works for SIU if they can't return Dibba or land an impact wing is to look anywhere for recruits with unproven potential (Juco, D2, D3, high school, overseas etc.), do a deep dive into their character track record, and if all the boxes are checked, sign them at a discount. Best case, they may find a surprise impact player or contributor. Worst case, you have extra bodies for practice and it costs them little.

Excellent point.  Last year 400-500 players in the portal never found teams.  Surely, there is a diamond in the rough among them.

But before that, right now the big boys' rosters are filling up, or they've run out of NIL money, or they're saving some of that money for players that pull out of the NBA draft.  So we should be competing with schools more on our level.  Hopefully we have enough NIL funds to grab a pretty decent player who was hoping to move up to the Big 10, but never found a roster spot.

Look up how Dan Monson and Mark Few built tiny Gonzaga into a power.

@mr_woogers which part of their tenure? Are you referring to how they started recruiting European players before it was trendy? Developing overlooked players?

Totally get the sentiment, but in today's landscape - can be very difficult. It almost benefits Mid-Majors to wait a little to sign players - and catch those that would be 11-15 on a High Major roster. The issue is ultimately, as always $$$

I certainly salute you guys who follow our recruiting so closely. I have no clue how you do it and what web sites you look at. I watched Walt Frazier and Dick Garrett play as part of our 1967 NIT championship team and have followed the Salukis closely ever since. However, I simply can't squeeze in following recruiting to the extent you guys do.

We all have our own individual lives to lead. However, don't take that as a backhanded slap because it isn't.

Just saying he went after players no one thought they could get....and scheduled very good teams, which is attractive to a lot of players.

Not saying it's easy but nothing wrong with reaching our to very good players - we've had our share of them. Unfortunately the money that's infecting college sports makes it much harder for mids.

Am I the only one looking at the numbers this kid put up and wondering why the list of suitors is so prestigious? Am I missing something?

Right, he was the fourth-leading scorer on a good but not great Charleston team. Maybe he is a great defender (not sure) or teams see him fitting a certain role really well, but also a reminder that just because Duke or any other team reached out doesn’t necessarily mean they’re offering or he’s a priority.
