I don't mean to over dramatize this, but itis my belief that having a legitimate 7 footer on the roster, along with a 6-10 athletic wide body is going to be extremely beneficial and add another dimension to this team as they enter conference play. Throw Muila in the mix and you have a pretty formidable frontcourt. As I have mentioned before, I was informed, in the summer, by one of Cade's teammates that he is "very smart and he works very hard". There are reasons he was offered by Oklahoma and K State (among others) and he has tremendous upside. It seems to me we sometimes do too much hand wringing over "this" player or "that" player on another team, instead of understanding and appreciating what we have. Go Dawgs.

After seeing Scottie in a cast last night, when he is able to play again, it is going to take some time to readjust to the game, especially MVC play IMO. Showed so much promise in that first game too.
GO DAWGS!!!
Hopefully the post goes from a liability to a strength as the season progresses and we get healthier. I'm not much of a fan of seeing D'Amico and Domaks play significant minutes at the 5. D'Amico should be playing the 4 and Domask should be playing the 3. Ebube and Hornecker give us an element we really haven't had in a very long time! We have to remember though they are freshmen playing in their very first ncaa D1 college games. The growing pains will come with the flashes of promise.
Exactly! Now all we need to do is somehow convince Bryan that this is a major asset. 😜 Develop these guys; trial by fire so in February/March when it matters most SIU will be able to impose their will, big or small. Getting Domask and Jones a few extra minutes of rest also wouldn't hurt.
I believe it was Bruce Weber that had a pretty genius take on developing young guys by incorporating them into the rotation early in the season; you have to play these guys, give them minutes and allow their confidence to build. Sometimes that means you might take a loss or two that you probably shouldn't have early on, but developing that depth pays in spades later on.

Throwing Mullia in the mix will not help. If you saw him on the court last year, he hurts more than he helps - one of the worst D1 free throw shooters ever. Just stick with Hornecker until Ebube gets back and give him rest when needed.
With Cade playing last night, does that mean the red shirt is off?

I wonder if Cade playing last night means Muila is going to be out longer than expected. There was a chance that Mulia was going to be ready last night based on past Mullins interviews. Can't imagine they throw him in against UNLV/Minnesota now.
Yes, Muila is a horrible ft shooter but he had many more positive minutes on court last year over negative . I don’t believe our 2 freshmen and sophomore centers should start over JD, if healthy. Too much to learn right now.

I seem to remember just a few years ago under Coach Mullins, a player broke his hand after the 6th game of the year and ended up with a medical red shirt for that season. Of course in that situation it ended with the player transferring as a Grad Transfer to Gonzaga and using the extra year of eligibility there.
If Ebube cannot rehab his hand in time to make an impact this season, it appears he would qualify for a medical hardship and then he would be the "big" red shirting this year instead of Hornecker. It would make sense to bring Hornecker in the rotation if there might be complications in Ebube's recovery.
A player that red shirted one year can still qualify for a medical hardship during their eligibility. That scenario has happened many times with players in the Valley.
I think you have nailed it.
I hate the idea of Ebube being out for a long stretch, not to mention the whole season, but if it means Hornecker getting real-game learning, then that's certainly a silver lining.
Also, I'd rather see CH get the "big" minutes over Muila, of JD is even going to be able to see the floor this year.
Sad to say . . .
I don't think we will ever know how good JD could have been; I think his original injury was way worse than we thought.

Exactly. Forget Ebube - he won't be much help to the team until February, due to scooter stupidity.
If we were going to take the redshirt off Cade, he should have played a lot of minutes in this game - a lot more than 7. Not sure what Mullins is thinking. CH played well, certainly did not hurt us, and this was an opportunity to get some serious game experience (and still win), which is WAY MORE valuable than playing in practice.
D'Amico guarding their center? That's not going to work against decent teams.
Another thing - do we have an assistant than can coach up big men? We should be running plays for Rupert and Hornecker (and eventually Ebube) - setting screens, whatever. Didn't see any of that.
This living by Domask and Jones on offense is not going to get us where we want to go.
Cade needs to play, what I seen from his first game he has a sweet shot, he gives siu a scoring threat, alters shoots, and he was looking for offensive/defensive rebounds , He can still run the floor, I think he will be a great player, looking forward to watching him play and get better this year

Just a hunch of mine with no other information but gut feeling, which is, I doubt JDM even plays again this year. Really hope I'm wrong.Cade hit two free throws. Sorry JD.
