Here's the full list of teams that have reached the MVC final since SIU last did it in 2007:

Illinois State - 6 times
Northern Iowa - 5
Wichita State - 4
Drake - 4
Loyola - 3
Bradley - 3
Indiana State - 2
Creighton - 2
Missouri State - 1
Evansville - 1
Valparaiso - 1

THIS is what's most frustrating... this team can't ever put together any kind of run to even get to Sunday, and it just happens year in and year out now.

SIU can't even luck its way into an MVC final, while all eight other teams who have been here since 2007 have gotten to an MVC final at least once.

At this rate, we'll see Belmont, UIC and Murray State in a final before the Dawgs show up there again.

The entire routine up there needs evaluated.

Maybe the team should be in a different hotel instead of the Hilton. If the Alums want to continue to stay there that’s up to them.

In conference, we were 9th in scoring offense and 8th in 3 pt. percentage.

2nd in defense. 2nd in steals. 2nd in home attendance.

6th in defensive rebounds, 11th in offensive rebounds, 9th in rebounding margin (negative)

While this was Mullins best season thus far and I think there was some improvement .  It isn’t good enough.  It’s tough to compare teams of different times, but when you look at the sweet 16 team Bryan played on, you had 4 starters averaging in double figures then the fifth starter was Bryan .  This team had two and that’s not good enough.  Have to be able to put the ball in the basket to win, regardless of how good your defense is.  No matter who stays or goes, we have to get better , that’s the bottom line.

Mullins talks about "building a culture" during the postgame... if the culture's an inability to make the MVC final OR not making the NCAA tourney OR not making the NIT... mission accomplished.

22 D-1 wins is pretty empty when they don't lead to anything of note in March.

”The culture is damn good.” -Bruce Allen before he got fired as GM of the Redskins

By culture, all they mean is players attend class and don’t get arrested for felonies.  In other words, literally the bare minimum of what ANY institution would want for their basketball program.

Supporter of the Fab 4: Scottie Ebube, Foster Wonders, AJ Ferguson & Cade Hornecker.

They’re the ones that can get us where we haven’t been in 15 years.

I don’t think it’s fair to want the 2000’s Salukis back, that’s never going to happen in 2023 but SIU can be more competitive

Don’t know if this has been posted, but very poor sportsmanship by Drake coach, leaving in starters until Mullins substituted with 38 seconds left in the game.

@siu-grad-87 I threw out the Bruce Allen quote as gallows humor, but it’s true that it could be way worse.

I’m in the middle of everyone I think.

I’m very frustrated with our lack of NIT or NCAA appearances in the last 17 years. There’s not many things I want more than the Salukis to be great again. I don’t agree with everything the coaching staff did this year with rotations, etc..

However, I do really really appreciate that Mullins and crew recruit good young men. And the guys gave it their all on defense all season and it won us a lot of games.

There’s definitely room for improvement with Bryan. But I do truly believe that he can figure it out. And if I’m wrong…that’s ok. I’d rather bet on him than against him.

I agree this program needs to be better and the critism is more than fair. It’s been too long since we tasted any kind of post season.

This group though are good young men and have really made an impression on my 9 year old son. He loves this team and especially Lance and Marcus. They have represented the university well. That part I will say I appreciate Mullins for.

Hopefully he can make adjustments and improve next season.
