@dirtydale yep I agree with that too. I could feel the magic back in the arena again this year and enjoyed every minute of it. Hoping Mullins can improve and be more successful next season.
I agree with Dirty. It is so frustrating to not reach the ncaa or even the nit in way too long. I want them to be at that next level as much as anyone. I am however proud of the character of the recruits Bryan has brought in and that they will graduate and be constructive members of society and always be Salukis. I will still support him but I am hoping he sees that the offense needs help and takes steps to make it better. You can't have one or two offensive threats and get to that next level.
You know I like Coach Mullins too. I was thrilled when he was hired. But, something seems to be missing. The inability to recruit is my main sticking point. True, we have not had some of the problems with players that some of the previous coaches have had. Coach Mullins has had 3 recruiting classes see the floor. Name one of these recruits that would see significant time for another conference team. Rupert ? Mulia ? Banks ? D'Amico ? Maybe, Ebube will be that guy in the future. Maybe Davis can be that guy in the future. Although, he is still a high school senior. This is 3 years of recruiting. Did Coach Mullins really say that he thought he could win a Valley Championship with this team ? With an offense that is ranked 309 in the entire country. Did injuries derail this team ? Did we really turn down Robby Avilla to sign Hornecker ? If we lose MD, LJ and X it is going to be a long and winding future road. If that is the case and those players choose to leave we will be in total rebuild again in year 5. Is that building a culture ? Like I said something is missing.

He is just not a good D-I head coach through 4 years. He might end up being a good one in his 40s someday.
But the only way that happens here is if we just stick with mediocrity for another 4 to 5 years.
He was a great Saluki player. But as a coach, he has not accomplished anything on the court in 4 years.
What is the most disturbing is he appears unwilling to make any adjustments to his philosophy.
He had all season to tinker with things. Nothing changed.

They’re the ones that can get us where we haven’t been in 15 years.
It took Wardle 7 years to win a conference ship (aside from the two lucky weekends they had). I’m in the middle also, but I’m not quitting on Mullins. He’s young. This year is his best so far. What our program looks like post Domask is a good indicator for me, but man I want him back. His player retention is really impressive, and rare at this point. This is something Barry struggled with. This is also why I think if we can get the right recruits, we can really go on a run with Mullins.
Extend him. See where we are next go around.
If he can sort out the offense, we’ll be back. Sometimes we forget he’s still a young coach. If I’m ever critical, it’s because I care. A lot of us still care, thank God. We have had phenomenal support here at home and in St. Louis the length of the drought. The worst possible thing is apathy. Thank God that isn’t happening.
We just need to get better on the offensive end and hope Marcus and Lance come back.
Several quality posts here and more importantly, Saluki basketball has a lot of great and loyal fans. Really impressed with the showing this weekend. You could feel how badly Saluki fans wanted to experience some success. If and when SIU ever gets all the way back, it’s going to be a thing to behold.
What an easy group of kids to root for. They play hard and represent SIU impeccably.
As for the Mullins debate … I’m all for giving him plenty of time, but … some of the stubbornness I see and hear is concerning. The first step to fixing any problem is admitting you have a problem. And the offensive play and production is a problem. Changes are urgently needed to be a championship program.
While watching the game today it was evident that anytime Drake needed a basket they had at least 4 go to guys on the floor and one space eater to gobble up offensive rebounds while this is a luxury most Valley teams don't have it would be nice to have a set play by Southern to get a good look or at least draw a foul to stop the bleeding but that aspect seems painfully lacking with this team and also when Drake makes a concerned effort to make sure Domask would not be a factor that seems concerning as well especially after he beat Drake in the first meeting by scoring every time for the win and after game two DrVries and staff made sure it wouldn't happen again and Mullins and staff had no counter
Mullins has got to fix this offense! It's horrible. He also needs to figure out how to play with two bigs on the floor at the same time. If he can correct the offense, SIU will be in good shape.
SIU's offense at Arch Madness:
106 total points (53 per game)
FG% 37-102 (36.3%)
2PT 26-63 (41.3%)
3PT 11-39 (28.2%)
