Unfortunately the Casino Queen Metrolink stop is closed right now. The casino has some type of sports shuttle bus to games, but you'd probably have to call and ask if that's operational for MVC games.
Otherwise, the Metro is a good option from the other Illinois stops.

Starting on Monday, January 30, the East Riverfront MetroLink Station will be temporarily closed to allow Metro Transit crews to make upgrades to the station. The East Riverfront Station is expected to be closed for at least two months to accommodate the construction work.
My two cents worth. I would NOT ride the Metro westbound any farther than the The Enterprise Center. The last time I was on it people were not even being checked to see if they had purchased a ticket. Two years ago at Arch Madness I spent the better part of a morning at an urgent care facility watching a fellow Saluki get stitches and a nose repair. He used to live in downtown STL and had gone to one of his former haunts when he was jumped by a carload of "youths" on Broadway as he was walking back to the Hilton. He was told at that facility that the current mayor had told the police to stand down.

You have a high probability of being T-boned by a stolen car
Typically when I think of a “high probability,” it generally means well over a 50% chance. I don’t know how the Blues and Cardinals still have any fans alive if what you say is true. Maybe the most dramatic post I’ve ever read on here, and that’s saying quite a bit haha.
We need to remember that probably 70 times a year, about 35,000 people or so pour out of Busch late at night for Cardinals games.

They’re the ones that can get us where we haven’t been in 15 years.
For sure, and not to downplay deaths, but if i'm connecting the dots to the proper story, this was 4 of 8 occupants of an SUV (likely not meant for 8 people to ride in as so few are, likely not properly wearing safety equipment like seatbels), in a terrible car accident that indeed was the result of an a-hole driver running a red light and smashing their car through a guard rail onto a street below the overpass they were on at the time. Tragic accident and awful indeed - but again not an everyday occurence. And it happened in the Central West End, not downtown. You have a high probability of being T-boned by a stolen car

Over dramatic much! I have lived in the St Louis suburbs for 22 years and this is not my take. I go to about 15 cardinal games a year, the symphony, art museum, downtown restaurants, blues games, etc. and am downtown frequently. You have to be aware, but you are being way overdramatic. Also, the MLS game is at night. There will be parking during the day. Good advice on not leaving visible things in your car. When you visit our fair city: Saturday there is zero parking available ALL DAY any where near the soccer venue and that includes the Arch Madness venue. Just be warned. No parking all day long. Second, if you have not been downtown for a while it is very dangerous. Don't walk into the street until you are certain there are no cars doing 60-90 MPH. It happens frequently! Read todays Post-Dispatch to see the result. Don't leave ANYTHING visible in your car. The later it gets downtown the more likely really serious crime will occur. Be warned that you, if you are involved in an accident, will encounter someone with no insurance, no drivers license, no license plates and perhaps will be armed. You have a high probability of being T-boned by a stolen car. It is very sad the demise of this once great city. It is in a "doom loop" where failing leadership gets elected over and over. Four teens were slaughtered this weekend near SLU. Be careful.
Ok, so I got your attention. Good. I moved here in 1978. Love all the the venues you mentioned. Frequent The Hill, CWE, Benton Park, Soulard, Fox Park, Shaw, etc. A word to the wise. St. Louis city, in particular downtown, has changed. You make a big mistake if you are not on guard. Also, a soccer venue employee warned me about the parking situation because the Soccer venue warned it's employees parking would be tight all day. You are informed. Southern's Friday game is late...that is a not a good thing. Yes, the SUV had more passengers than it should have but that does not change the fact the driver of the other car deliberately ran the red light knowing how dangerous that was. Enjoy the game. Go Dawgs!!!
it should be fun for all, and the best part of what you said was fans should be "on guard" - certainly not trying to throw shade at you and you are right that St. Louis is failing to build the city up into what it could be. In reality, everyone should always try to be aware of what's going on around them and it would save everyone from an awkward or awful situation a time or two for sure. Hope everyone who comes has a great time, and most of all hope the Salukis show what they are capable of. Go DAWGS!
this is less than a mile from the enterprise center, just across the street from a mcdonalds's. like joaquin andujar used to say "youneverknow!"

Says there was an altercation before the shooting. St. Louis is bad but so is any major city the MVC Tournament could possibly go to. I can tell you that Nashville and of course Chicago are really bad in areas too.
It would be awesome to table the teeth-gnashing til like, June, when there's nothing going on. I don't know if there's going to be a ton of new information that changes people's views on whether they are OK hitting up St. Louis this week ... personally, my only major fear for the week is one of the Salukis' painful scoring droughts coming at a bad time.
Any Saluki Insiders getting together before the game?

FWIW I believe there's some kind of SIU alumni pregame event happening at Ballpark Village at 5 p.m. on Friday. I think I saw something on Facebook but hopefully someone can grab the details.
think it was like 5 bucks to get in and prize giveaways somewhere round there. that said our flight gets in early morning. looks like day drinking in soulard around the cats meow and big daddys and trying out that chavos mexican joint that looks promising. may hit up some ski ball at the bar in ball park village that has a great view of the new stadium before game time if i make it there early enough. most definitely be in soulard til dark though unless my grandma is at the casino. love to kick it in a low key beer garden soulard way if any of ye mongrols are around and the weather is nice.Any Saluki Insiders getting together before the game?

also last year felt pretty safe, stayed downtown but we always ended up soulard for a nice low key blues band. went to a mexican joint in the middle of downtown that was overpriced and sucked and had a bullet in the window. but i liked their abundance of simpsons figures randomly placed throughout. there is a hockey bar downtown that had awesome drafts and super cool i hit up. my girlfriend and i found stuff to do and felt safe in general. if ya cant tell, we will be drinking and open to gambling so really only into those pre game activities. likely save some hung over frisbee for saturday when we play uic
