The bad thing about this matchup is a certain segment of the fan base feels like SIU got a win today because another team lost on the road.
That’s not a good attitude. What is a good attitude is thinking SIU is gonna beat Drake.
They almost did that twice.
I hope the SIU Arena roof doesn’t come tumbling down. Either way.
Playing hard and fighting until the end is not good enough at this point.
Bryan Mullins has gotten about $1.5 million in base salary so far.
The product isn’t good enough, the recruiting isn’t even close to good enough, and next year is gonna be tough.
But we can keep kissing a$$ because we loved him as a player.
I want to see something. St Louis would be a good start.
And anyone who thinks I’m just some troll can kiss my ass from here to across the street.

Mullins is not going anywhere for at least after 3 more years.

Nobody said he should or would go anywhere.
SIU is a nobody right now. I hate saying that but it’s a fact.
And having these only defense teams that are boring to watch aren’t gonna bring in any new fans .
This season has been a major disappointment. It’s not like Covid only hit CarbondAle and skipped the other towns of the good teams.
I was excited before the season. The team ain’t good. I’m most worried about next season.

SIU can beat Drake. I will be there all day Friday both sessions. Will be at Clarks between games and at halftime hope to meet some of you there. I will be there as long as the Dawgs are winning. Here's hoping to me having to buy Saturday and Sunday session tickets.

According to the Valley conference website, SIU is second in the league in home attendance this year averaging 4,282 per game.

Illinois State, which you could argue has a pretty solid offense, ranked 8th this year, yet they don't seem to be attracting "new fans".
I think every SIU fan has been watching in person or online to hear the arena crowd literally roar when a Tony Young picks up a Hawaii player full court or a Trent Brown dives out of bounds to save a loose ball, so I don't think being a program that's built off defense-first has hurt attendance at all.

Then let's go get that win.
Curious to hear an update on Wilkins. He’s a substantial piece for Drake, though of course they’ll be a tough matchup regardless.

Yes, after he went out is when we started rolling
Drake message board said Wilkins was walking around after the game unaided. An MRI is scheduled for tomorrow. Hope the guy is OK. I am not one of those guys that roots for players on other teams to be injured. Personally I hope he plays so when we beat the Drake, we won't have to hear any excuses from them (or even some members here) about how they would have won with Wilkins.
Nothing to lose Friday, all the pressure is on them. Let's go win the damn thing! We're due
Lots of interesting views here about the present and future state of Saluki basketball. Im just a long standing fan with no claim to hoops wisdom, but I do have opinions:
1. 9-9 conference is not all that bad. Disappointing of course, but certainly not cause for alarm.
2. FWIW, I view the fact that this team has an unblemished record of beating the (conference) teams below them and nearly perfect record of competing down to the wire with teams above says they have always come to play. That to me says a great deal about both coaching and character----and recruiting.
3. The notion that defense oriented teams are not crowd pleasers is at odds with Saluki history from Hartman to Weber,Painter,Lowry. Of course we loved the Herrin and Lambert teams as well. Crowds are pleased by winning; its even better if in winning, teams develop a signature (remember "send in the Dobermans"?,Floorburn U,etc).
Anyway: GO DAWGS!
"That to me says a great deal about both coaching and character----and recruiting." I totally agree. I never understood why some feel we can't have both athleticism AND good character. I am also very proud of the fact that our men's basketball team had the highest cumulative GPA in the history of the program. Compared to the days when we would have to read police reports to see what players would be playing, it is a breath of fresh air. Congrats Coach Mullins, coaches and players. Being a student athlete is not an easy schedule to handle, but you guys are doing it in an exemplary manner.
