After uic ties the game with 3.8 seconds. I’ll take getting the ball over half court and calling a timeout for 1000 Alex. Didn’t freeze the free throw shooter. Didn’t do what a third grade coach would know to do and get the ball over the half and call a timeout. Instead calls a time out to dribble it full length. Other than that I don’t remember much from last night and I’m glad for it.
Or the Grant Hill to Laettner play on the inbounds. Shoot if open. Call timeout if not.

I was at the Belmont game and, just before half, with around 1.7 seconds left, Belmont threw it to half court, called a TO and then hit a semi-contested 3pt shot. I turned to my wife and said, Mullins wouldn't do that. And bam, we end up dribbling (time wasting) and taking a half court prayer.
@insaluki If I remember correctly they ran that same play before the half against us in Nashville. Worked to perfection. So it's not like BM hasn't seen it before...
Weird end to the season with 3 points given away at the line at crunch time by two guys who have been incredibly reliable there all year.

Yep. X misses the front end of the 1 and 1 which kept the door open and Brown goes 1/2. Both 5th year Seniors that were good FT shooters all year.
Does anyone else feel like Mullins' teams play incredibly tight? Seems like a consistent theme. His players enjoy each other and there's certainly a brotherhood there, but to me they're tightly wound on the court. Seems to rear its ugly head in big games, the MVCt, in the clutch, or when things aren't going so well. Could be an unintentional side effect of Bryans intense personality. Teams often reflect their coach in this way.
Conversely, Hinson's teams often felt the opposite -- like they weren't locked in or ready to match the opponents intensity in big games.

Right on here. I have noticed this for years. It seemed to happen over and over again, particularly with three point shooters. He would recruit players with a super reps as three point shooters and good offensive players and after a very short time all of sudden could not make shots and seemed scared to take them. I recall Wonders saying after a good game that he was getting over his hesitancy to take a shot. Why in the hell would a player like him who has shot freely his entire life...with success... all of sudden be hesitant to shot?Does anyone else feel like Mullins' teams play incredibly tight?
