Drake plays Vandy tomorrow.
The Racers might have ended up with the most disappointing loss of the night at home to Utah Valley.
Missouri State is going to get a big win over High Point
Bradley wins the Myrtle Beach Invitational over Middle Tennessee
Drake up 8 on Vanderbilt with 11:40 left on ESPN
Drake beats Vanderbilt 81-68 and win the Charleston Championship
Drake has been really impressive. They're playing very high IQ basketball, which is really surprising this early.

At the alumni association event before the Florida game, one of the folks who attended was someone whose name I won't disclose but would describe as well-connected in the college basketball world. He is a big McCollum fan and doesn't expect him to be there for long, specifically mentioning Iowa as a possible next job.

That would be my guess, but McCafferey is a good coach, has won the B10 Tourney and beaten many ranked teams. He's not on the hot seat. Just signed an extension through 27-28.
McCollum will sign with a Power 5 school for big bucks in a year or two is my guess.

If not Iowa, then maybe Minnesota, which also seems to make geographic sense. Don't know if the coach is on the hot seat there yet, but they haven't been good. One of my friends is a Minnesota alum and is fed up with the situation.
North Texas puts a whoppin on UNI by 20 must have been a Happy Thanksgiving in Panther land

This is the guy I wanted Southern to hire. There was some question about how his coaching would translate to D1. Looks like that won’t be an issue after all.
As a side note, the administration at Drake must be very good. I still associate them with being bottom-feeders from back in Southern’s haydays, but they’ve made several good hires and have established themselves as the premier basketball program in the Valley.
They turned things around when they hired Medved who has since been very good at Colorado State. Following that up with DeVries and Son was a homerun. I'm pretty sure McCollum was at the top of SIU, MSU and Drake's initial coaching lists. The only solace for SIU is that Nagy will not be looking to move up as opposed to McCollum who will be at either Iowa or Iowa State eventually. At the alumni association event before the Florida game, one of the folks who attended was someone whose name I won't disclose but would describe as well-connected in the college basketball world. For the record, I really liked the Nagy hire, still like it for the long term despite the weak start, and disagree strongly with anyone who is booking an early seat on the "Fire Nagy" bandwagon. But McCollum was my No. 1 choice for the job until it was apparent he wasn't interested. I'm not sure it was ever established whether SIU had much interest in him or if he interviewed for the job and decided it wasn't right for him. Remember, he also was the overwhelming favorite for the Missouri State job, but somehow that didn't work out.
Although I've not done a deep dive into Drake's administrative history, maybe stability has something to do with its success. As a private school, Drake isn't reliant on the incompetent and Machiavellian workings of a state legislature, and my educated guess is that they've had considerably less churn than SIU among top administrators and ADs. That certainly would be appealing to many coaching candidates. And Drake also has built a culture of winning basketball -- the type SIU had 20 years ago but could not sustain.
