Here's a way too early MVC Preview for 2022-23:
Can't say I agree much with some of this but always fun to look ahead to basketball season. The MVC is going to be tough to predict this year given the amount of turnover and adding 3 new schools.
My personal guess is that he had UNI and Bradley way too high. And Illinois State way too low. Aside from that, I could buy most of it.
Think he's way too low on Missouri State too. Way too much talent there. If they finish in 6th, Ford might be on the hot seat.
100% turnover for their productive players. Hard to win in D1 with a completely new team, unless they are mostly 5* kids, like in the case of Duke or Kentucky. He got a couple 3/4* kids that didn't play for power 5 teams, some decent mid major transfers and a good juco tranfer. They will ALL need to learn a new system and learn to play together. I'm not sure why you are so high on them. I think the writer has them right where they should be.
Maybe they all come together and are special, or maybe they have a bunch of malcontents who are out for themselves and self destruct. Transfers often bring issues, so an entire team of transfers could be trouble. Just my opinion.
Agree on Missouri State. Almost always, prognosticators will lean heavily towards ranking known commodities ahead of more of the unknown, especially when picking preseason favorites. What the Bears also have working against them is a recent history of underachieving with loads of talent. They certainly have potential, but they aren't really on my radar for top tier.

I think 100% turnover is going to matter, especially early in the season but really Drake is the only team without much turnover at all. Even though SIU is returning Domask and Jones, they’re still adding 4 transfers and 3 Freshmen this year. Not exactly a team that’s played together.

Huge difference between SIU and MSU. Our 2 best players are back for their 4th year. Jones, Domask and Brown are all back for their 4th year. Banks is back for his 3rd year. D'Amico and Muila are back for their 2nd year playing, Muila's 3rd year in the system. Those are 6 guys coming back who were a huge part of your core last year and all have years of experience in our system. Even the redshirts, Ebube and Wonders will have almost 1.5 years in the system with countless workouts and practices. That is very different than no one coming back with ANY significant playing time. We have our core back and by far our 2 best players who are the heart of this team. Also, Domask and Jones should be healthier than they have been in 2 years. Add multiple veteran pieces to that and you are in a completely different world than Missouri State is looking at!

While Missouri State is in fact fielding almost an entirely new squad, as a technicality, I believe they return one starter in Donovan Clay and their backup big guy, Dawson Carper, who actually looked pretty decent at times late last season.
I put Missouri State and Murray State in the same boat this year: some nice incoming talent, but who knows how it all shakes out ... could be boom, bust or in between. They will both be pretty darn athletic, though, which has given SIU fits ... hopefully less so next year with some of the roster additions.

Good catch, forgot about Clay who is a good player. Missouri State is bringing in some talented guys, but several of them have little to no D1 playing experience. There are several that were highly touted out of HS, but played no significant minutes for their power 5 teams. They are bringing in a good juco, but there is usually a significant adjustment from Juco. The mid major transfers they are adding are more MEH to me than the previously mentioned power 5 transfers, so I don't think they are huge difference makers. The power 5 guys could be difference makers, but that's TBD. We are bringing in Johnson and Newton who have tons of D1 experience and have played at a high level in the mvc and A10. Also, Rupert gained valuable high level experience in the ncaa tourney. We have 6 core players coming back and 3 experienced talented guys coming in who will be able to step right in and contribute at possibly a high level. That doesn't even take in consideration Ferguson, the redshirts and Hornecker.

Well said. I concur.

Bradley launches the first NIL collective in the MVC:
Bradley Braves supporters announced the launch of what is believed to be the first name, image, and likeness collective in the Missouri Valley Conference. Home of the Brave is a member-driven organization that connects Bradley Braves men’s basketball players to name, image, and likeness opportunities.
The collective says it will help student-athletes monetize their individual and collective brands while providing mentoring, educational, and networking opportunities.
This NIL crap is going to ruin college sports if anyone thought corruption was bad before just wait mid majors have no chance there aren't enough boosters to come up with enough money for this

Takes over from brother and fellow ex-Saluki.
Kyle might be one to keep an eye on for Southern in the future, depending on how things go with Mullins. He's putting together a pretty good resume.

Good for Tyler! Hope he eventually works his way into the D1 coaching ranks as well!
The NIL will ruin college athletics as we know it. However it will also create tiers within the BIG MONEY conferences which will ultimately cause another shift in college athletics. I hope SIU has enough funding to compete at high level, but that's likely competing at a high level against other schools that fall within the mid-major category....however the NCAA wants to classify that tier. The BIG MONEY schools can go play with themselves.....they'll cause their own demise.

AND two of our freshman are redshirts who have gotten knocked around in practice with the team for a year, as well as watched every minute of every game in close proximity.
PS- one of those freshman probably did more knocking than getting knocked!
