With a new coach completely new roster I can't see Murray being ahead of us not to mention an upgrade in competition in the MVC vs OVC

Yea I don’t get the Murray hype. They’ve brought in some good players but no way I’d put them 2nd.

I think it’s a combo of the credibility their program has from consistent success (albeit in the OVC) and a lack of other teams that scream to be picked very high. Yes, SIU and Bradley return a lot of guys, but they haven’t won at a high level, so until you prove it …

Yeah SIU needs to prove they can win.  They haven't even been to Saturday in St. Louis since 2018 I believe.

Murray State has averaged over 22 wins the past 3 season, SIU 14.  Every season is different but their recent and long term success compared to SIU would give many outside of this program to give them the edge going into the season despite the positive off-season changes SIU has made.

Let us remind ourselves of the fact that Murray played in the OVC. Wins are a lot easier to come by there.

22 wins in the OVC is hardly better than 14 wins in the MVC, especially with the OVC being as AWFUL as it was this past season. Imagine playing Evansville 14 times and then having Morehead State and Belmont for 2 games a piece. You’ve basically already got a 14-0 start.

The reason I like our chances against Drake is I believe we can challenge them now with a level of physicality that could give them some trouble.

Respectfully, the MVC wasn't that strong last year, although certainly stronger than the OVC for sure.  But Murray beat Memphis on the road,  Chattanooga and went 31-3, including an NCAA win over a team that beat SIU.  I don't think it's fair to completely disregard a team that went 31-3 just because of their weak conference, especially bc larger schools used to do the same to SIU (when we used to be successful) bc they played in the MVC.

What they did last year is totally irrelevant, darn near the whole team transferred. This is a completely new team... new players, new coaches, new AD.... so saying they need to be respected because of last year makes no sense.

I am still mystified as to how Prohm went 0 and whatever in the conference in his final year at Iowa State. Haven’t bothered to look into it, but doesn’t sound like a ringing endorsement of his coaching prowess.

I agree that season to season there can be significant changes that make recent history less reliable.  My opinion, however, is that it is still important to look at the consistent success this program has had over the past decade + and think that they are doing something right.  Want to bet that they'll finish in the top half of the conference?  A friendly wager of course.

Jake LaRavia went #19 overall last night.  If you would have told me he’d be a top 20 pick two years ago when he was at Indiana State, I’d think you were crazy.
